COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Portland Classic! This strong ale has a deep mahogany color and is crafted with seven different specialty malts. A touch of smoked malt gives it a complex aroma and incredible flavor. LSD is also generously hopped with six hop varieties to help create an awesome beer.

AKA the LSD--"You don’t have to be a hippie to love LSD" is the slogan of Lompoc’s Strong Draft (LSD). This all-year beer has the kick of a winter beer. With a deep chestnut body and a nice fluffy off-white head and great lacing, this beer possesses a big malty nose. Balanced out by a perfect amount of bittering hops. This one is chocolaty with hints of dark fruits and mild grapefruits. A bit boozy in the finish. All around quite good!

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2010 Deep amber/mahogany with decent malty nose, though not malt ball like. Hopping in periphery does not color the flavor or aroma, but contributes balance. Re-rated 2/20/10. Akin to a Scottish Wee Heavy with the lighltly smoked amber malt body. Touches of candi and crystal malt.

Dark brown colour. Big head. Chocolatey, slightly plummy, toasty, grapefruity aroma. Toasty character with light citrus accents. With its blend of subtle roastiness and overt hoppiness, it reminds me a lot of Black Toque, but with more grapefruit and an extra splash of booze.

Porter-inspired dry, smokey, bitter chocolate malt base with a pronounced, stale hoppy finish. Dry plums also.

Pint. and a nitro smaple Draft at the Hedge House, Portland. Medium brown color, hazy, thin off-white head and great lacing throughout the pint. Piney hop nose from arms distance. Some alcohol evident at close range, smelling like a strong Barleywine, with sweet malts even present in the nose as caramel and fresh bread. Big bodied and sweet at first sip. Some peaty/raison notes in the middle and finishes clean and hoppy. A bit fiery at first few swallows but not as evident about halfway through the pint. Rather good!!!

UPDATED: FEB 18, 2009 On draft from the Oaks Bottom Public House in SE Portland (Sellwood dist.). LSD, as it was called there. Very ESBy but with a considerably stronger/more intense flavor profile than usual for the style. Quite sweet.
On re-rate from the bottle: Smoked elements very prominent. This almost presents as an old ale.

First - yes, I checked many times straong, not strong. Draft. mahogony color with a nice off-white head. Low roasty, slight hop, slight smoke aroma. Balanaced smoke, malt, roast, fruity hops. Lingering fruit, smoke, and malt. Medium body. Nice balance. Well made beer.

Aroma is sweet malt forward with caramel, roast and some bready notes. Appearance is dark brown with a light tan head. Flavor is roast and caramel forward, well blended. Overall complexity is low, with a clean finish, but not too dry. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a low/medium carb feel. Overall, very easy drinking, well made, and extremely clean for the style.

On tap at the Rogue Bones and Brew festival. This dark brown ale poured with a frothy off-white head. The flavor is initially matly with a long bitter hop finish.

This draft brew from the brew pub poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized light brown colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a opaque no visible carbonation black colored body. The strong stout-like aroma was brown malt and dark malt. The mouth feel was smooth at the start and mediumly tingly at the finish hoppy aftertaste. The stout-like flavor contained notes of hops roasted malt and dark malt. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.
