UPDATED: MAR 28, 2009 LSD for short. Had this at Lompoc, Portland. dark brown in color, thin white head. heavy malt aroma. Caramel, molasses, maybe raisins. Very nice hop finish. Although a bit dry, Balances nice. Reminds me of Arrogant, but better. Also in 22oz bottle 2.5yrs after my first rating.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap. Poured a dark brown with thin white head. Smells of caramel and some smokiness, but I’d like more of that reflected in the taste, which was hoppy, but not overboard. It was a little too carbonated. Overall, it was a good beer, a few small tweaks would make this real nice.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
8 ounce sample at the brewpub. Sweet, sticky, caramelly malt aroma with some hints of dark fruits, like raisins. There is also a perfumey and floral aroma. Develops a more orangey citrus aroma as this warms. Transparent mahogany color with a small, fleeting whitish head. Thinnish body is the first thing I notice about this. Palate then gets barraged by citrus hops to start, followed by some roasty malts. Finishes dry, VERY hopped with lots of grapefruit. This beer is a wanna-be Arrogant Bastard.

See, this falls back into my same gripe. This is does not fit the category that it is brewed in. Way too light in style, with a signifigant maltiness, great flavor, but the hop profile that is present in the aroma, is just not followed in the flavor profile, it is there but it is strongly lacking.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Thin white head, pours orange color. Smells hoppy but not strongly. Taste is somewhat hoppy but somewhat bland too. Palate is too watery. More complexity and hoppiness would be nice. I thought this was an IPA and not a strong ale, just a low hop IPA.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at New Old Lompoc. Cloudy amberish brown with a white head. Aroma of hops and caramel. Flavor has notes of toasted malt, a hint of roastiness, big caramel, toffee with plenty of bitter hops on the back end. Very well balanced. Full, creamy body with moderate carbonation. Nice stuff.

The bar keeper was nice enough to give me samples of both the regular draft, and the nitro version. The nitro LSD had a strange vinegar and yogurt nose. The flavor was drained and unpleasant, but the regular LSD was quite the opposite. Hard fruit, and roasted malt aroma. Nice and inviting. Hard fruit, lightly smoked, with just a touch of chocolate. Hints of alcohol and complexities. This brew is almost like a fusion of scottish ale and IPA. Not a bad beer, just skip the nitro LSD.

on tap at the brewpub. dark orange. curious mix of dark malts and piney hops, seemed stragely subdued for a strong ale though
