Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. Inky black with a rapidly disappearing thin brown head. It has very rich roasted coffee, chocolate and liquorice flavours with slight sour fruitiness and more chocolate and coffee on the finish. Fantastic!

Keg at Earl of Essex, Islington, London. A black coloured pour with a small beige head on top. Intense roasty, malty, chocolate aroma. Tastes similar, very roasty, malty, chocolate, slightly bitter, dark fruit, dry, almost burnt. A top quality stout.

330ml bottle - shared by rosenberg - thanks
Nice soft cakey roast aroma, a little sharp too. Black, and a brief tan head. Stale stale stale coffee grounds in the taste - a really dark roast, but fortunately not ashy. Dry and a littly ashy in the finish. Biting bitter and burnt finish. Gone too much in the burnt direction for me, drinkability ruined. Don’t do that.

330 ml bottle. BB 23/08/14. Courtesy of VastActiv. Black colour with a small tan head. Roasted malt, coffee, bitterness, ash and mild milky sweetness in the aroma. The flavour is very burned malt, ash, burned coffee and some hops. Too burned and too much coffee for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thanks Leighton! Almost no head on this fridge temp pour into a wine glass. Dark roasty black appearance. Nose is very roasty, lots of oak and a hint of smokiness. Barley dominates the nose. Taste is very dry, lots of chocolate paired very well with barley and a very earthy / nutty tone. It’s a classic stout and very very delicious. Wish there was a bit more carbonation to this.

330ml bottle

Pours dark brown, almost black with a small brown head. Strong aroma of licorice, tar, roasted malts, chocolate, cocoa and vanilla. Taste is smooth, roasty and mildly smokey with hints of cocoa and tar. Finish is roasty, malty and mildly bitter with some hints of licorice. Nice, quite balanced dark stout.

33 cl bottle @ olio. Bottled 23.08.2012, BBE 23.08.2014
Aroma has cocoa, some roasted notes, semi‐dark chocolate and coffee. Flavour has ash, cocoa, some coffee, salty licorice and semi‐dark chocolate. Could be more rich of course. But then this would be an imperial stout.
