UPDATED: MAR 6, 2013 On gravity at the winter beer festival, the Three Tuns, Bristol 23/2/2013. Near black with a tight, off-white head. Big, bitter chocolate, smooth roasted grains, a touch of dark fruit and pleasantly dry finish. Ridiculously easy drinking, a half pint easily went down and was immediately followed by a full one. My beer of the festival. Excellent all round.

33cl bottle from the brewery. It pours a dark brown, almost black colour with a medium beown head. Foam is sticky and quite lasting. Aroma is intense and complex with chocolate and wood above all. Coffee and roasted malts as well. Taste is sweet-ish with nice bitterness form the woody roasty quality to cut trough it. Chocolate and coffe again, with hints of vanilla and peat. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Overall, very good.

330ml bottle- my 50th Kernel. Kind of. Thick, glossy black skimmed with dirty beige. Drinking chocolate, grilled veg, chocolate eclair left in the toaster too long aroma. Deep, soft, burnt chocolate character imbued with balance and bittersweetness. Hop/roasted malt-bitter; fine, quintessentially stouty. Hints of raisin, anise, coal smoke, dry roasted seeds and nuts. Serious. Merest tang of sour. Nice.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 oh6gdx (18576) - Vasa, FINLAND - FEB 23, 2013
Bottled. Quite much pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma is mild roasted notes, caramel, chocolate, coffee, cookies and some quite nice sweetish notes. Hard to fully describe, but really lovely. Flavour is toffee, roasted malts, some old coffee and mild chocolate. A bit empty in the flavour compared to the aroma.
