Cask at Pig’s Ear Beer Festival, London. Clear deep golden. Aroma of butter and orange. Sweet with medium-full body and rounded mouthfeel. Spicy orangey hops and banana is there to cover the buttery malt. Mid bitter finish with a slight warming tingle.

Cask at Pigs Ear. Clear amber beer, good white head. Light semi dry palate. Mildly sweet pale malt with a touch of honey. Nice sweetish hops. Tangerine dominates mild tropical fruits. Some floral qualities going on as well. Good beer.

Cask at the Botanist, Kew. This has matured to a red-brown with a lasting medium-fine off-white head and a lovely aroma of citrus and spicy hops, malt and toffee. More fruit and toffee in the body, hints of lemon, a little oak and some grassy herbs, then a sharp grapefruit and hop bitterness in the finish.

Bottled@Kernel. Hazy orange colour, small white head. Aroma is fruits, herbs, mild spices and quite sweet maltyness. Flavour is caramel malts, fruits, some rather bitter notes as well as some herbal notes as well.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Pigs Ear Beer Festival (Day 1) on 6 December 2011. Gingery colour. Not sure what the hops used are here but there seems to be some UK influence? Certainly doesn’t sing out in the perfumed aromatic way I’d expect if American hops were in the forefront. Fairly bitter and quite tasty with some orange peel and touch of grapefruit. Solid, just not as vibrant as expected.

Bottle at Kernel Brewery. Per Patrik Jan tasting. Deepish orange. Lasting white head. Not sure I want bubblegum in my ipa. Banana esters. Not great

Gravity cask at the London Brewers Showcase 2011. Pours clear copper with a white, bubbly foam head. Looks nice. Has a lot of ripe citrus on the nose. Flavor is medium sweet, plenty of ripe citrus and other tangy fruits, caramel, cake malts. Light to medium bodied with fine, soft carbonation. Sticky finish, some sugars, tangy citrus, light grapefruit, oily pine. Not too, but not as good a collaboration as last year’s porter.
