NOTE: Some of the production was allocated to Kernel brewery, where it was bottled as The Kernel London Brick Red Rye Ale with Dark Star and Redemption overprinted on the label.

A special brew amongst friends. Brewed for the 21st Aniversary of the Brighton Beer Fest, as requested by Evening Star landlord Matt Wickham. Brewed at Redemption brewery, with many talented friends: Mark Tranter from Dark Star, Evin O’R, from Kernel, Simon S, from Zerodegrees, James from Brodies, and Angelo and Steve from BrewWharf. This is a big hopped rye ale. Shades of red/amber, over nearly 30% of the grist being Rye. Then hopped in a DarkStar/Kernel/BrewWharf way, with a ton of Simcoe, Centennial and Cascade. Some 18ks went into 10 uk Brewers barrels. Read more about the beer at Mark Tranters blog: http://darkstarbrewing.co.uk/marks-blog/a-great-result-from-white-hart-lane/

Cask at The Bree Louise, London. Dark gold pour with a thick, foamy eggshell head. Beautiful nose, piney hops and grapefruit come piercing through. Damn, this is really, really good. Flavor holds toasty malts, honey, caramel, huge bitterness of pine, grapefruit, tangerine and earth. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sticky, dank hop finish, lingering pine, earth, and lighter citrus. Some faint sugar maltiness helps balance things out. Wow. Excellent beer.

Bottle at Craigs. A dark brown beer with a lacy light tan head. Aroma of leather, coffee and caramel. Flavours of coffee, passion fruit, dark malts and barley. Foamy mouth-feel with a fair CO2 prickle from the moderate carbonation.

Bottle @ JohnMurdoch. Amber colour, off-white head. Nose is pine, grapefruit, some malts. Flavour is malty, fairly bitter pine. Ok stuff, but a bit watery and one-dimensional.

Bottle from Beermerchants.com. Spicy hoppy aroma. Dark medium brown colour, good head. Hoppy flavour. Quite smooth. Slightly disappointing copy of a classic American IPA.

Bottle at home. Pours almost clear mahogany with a big creamy off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit and light resiny hops. Taste is good bitter hops, almost a creamy/velvety smooth mouthfeel.Good balanced, fresh crispy hops and a solid malty body. Lingering spicy and herbal bitterness, what a threat!

Medium beige head. Deep dark red body. Spicy mango and lime aroma with sugary notes. Dry-sweet wooden mango and spice taste with lime and roasted malts notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry-sweetish wooden spicy lacquer aftertaste with fruity gooseberry notes. Very easy to drink. Outstanding. (0.33l bottle, beermerchants.com.)

Bottle. Deep ruby with a fine beige foam tufting the glass. Ripe hop aroma dripping with orange and pineapple jelly, flowers, blackcurrant, bubblegum and mango. After a snort of that the flavour can’t fail; orange and blackcurrant pastilles, Ribena and tonic. Some very late husk. Malt and rye completely demolished by hops. I’ve only had one Redemption beer before, at Cov 2010 and I knew in a sip they were good. Beautiful beer.
