3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Strykzone (3135) - Wood River, USA - FEB 8, 2012
Sampled at an esbls tasting. It looks like a stout with a nice fluffy tan head. Lots of malt in the aroma plus something I cannot identify. Smoke, too. A thin feel. Some cream is tasted with so much malt. Finish is chocolate. Not bad.

Bottle, shared with Parksy and Gripp. Upon popping the cap, a small bubbly brown pillar climbed out of the neck. Not quite a gusher, but leaning that way! Enormous head formation in the glass. Nice choc-roasty aroma and flavour, but this beer is killed by the carbo. It is a gas bomb! The fizziest stout I’ve had in memory. Wow.

It poured a black color with a small tan head. The aroma was of malts, oats, chocolate and some caramel. The taste was milky sweet with some toasted malts and hints of milk chocolate.

Bottle: Dark brown pour with a massive brown head. Nearly a gusher. Roast is balanced well with the light cocoa and bittersweet flavors. Aroma is soft with roast and chocolate. Smooth and creamy mouthful.

650ml bottle started overflowing the bottle as soon as I cracked the cap. It took over 10 minutes to pour two glasses of this brew. Anyways, the head was dark tan colored and left some really nice lacing. Aroma is dark roasted malts. Taste is dark roasty malted bitterness with some underlying malt sweetness and a pleasing hoppy bitter finish. This is a great stout to drink when the head does finally settle down. Very smooth and easy to drink.

Another solid offering here. Taster at the brewpub and other pints around town. Full bodied certain oatmeal centric flavor. Pours a requisite deep black with a slight tan head. Sweetness is not too much and not too little, just right here.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 after4ever (4500) - Brier, Washington, USA - SEP 19, 2011
22. Pours black with a toweringly massive PITA dark tan head. The label says bottle conditioned. The label neglects to mention that it might in fact be a little bit too bottle conditioned. This is a six-paper-towel head. This is a two-glasses-for-one-person head. I finally gave up and rinsed one glass and put it in the dishwasher after the head erupted and splashed into the cats’ water dish. So I mighta paid for 22 ounces, but I’ll be drinking more like maybe 12. Harrumph. The label is sweet, though. Gorgeous duotone-feeling illustration of Lookout Pass or Flathead Lake or something, with a microbus crawling up the hill. If you’ve driven through Montana, this label makes you want to turn around and head back...simple though it is. Anyway, the beer: Big roasty dark chocolate and beef jerky nose atop the nuclear-powered dun-colored head. Creamy medium body with prickly carb, way more than is needed for the beer. Harsh bitter chocolate mid-palate, but not entirely unappealing. Overcarbonation makes it a bit overbearing. Roast and dark fruits under that. You put the words "oatmeal" and "stout" on your label, and a certain kind of person will expect a silky smooth sweetness in the glass, and that ain’t here at all. This is a yeasty beasty jailbreak under a cap, is what it is. Those residual sugars were just a little bit too much of a party on wheels for a bottle-conditioned beer. Why would you ship a sweet stout live? I mean, shipping live is super cool, but...a sweet stout? Why pick that one? Maybe it’s genius in the keg, I dunno. Ask the bartender. After he showers and changes.
