Initially Pioneer I: Yellow Rose, later on became a regular.

A SMaSH, Single Malt and Single Hop, IPA using a caboodle (technical term for a large amount of malt) of malt and a new hop released in 2012 called Mosaic (HBC 369). It is a daughter of Simcoe (YCR 14), one of our favorite hops. Whole cone Mosaic is used for bittering, flavoring, and aroma in the kettle; it is also massively dry hopped. The beer is named after a Texas Heroine.

Tasting notes: chalk-white head with a very clean malt backbone. The hops impart strong grapefruit, pineapple, and blueberry flavor and aroma. A strong beer that is extremely quaffable.

From notes. Enjoyed this as part of the long-anticipated Toppling Goliath Brouhaha with Travis, Chris, Doug, and Ryan at Travis’s house on September 24. 750 mL bottle, I forget who brought it. The pour is a pale golden yellow with a thick white head that falls down to a pretty dense cap, leaving some good lace. The aroma is pretty interesting. There is a lot of floral hop, bready malt, and bitter pine resin emanating out of the glass. There is a lighter tropical fruit once you dig a bit deeper. A light grassiness touches off the finish. The flavor is very similar. There is a good bit of malt, but the fruitiness is a little better this time around. There is a bitter resin and a light floral hop on the finish. The mouth feel is lighter and clean with a softer carbonation and a lingeringly bitter pine resin drowning out the tropical fruits. Glad I got to try this one.

bottle. says smash IPA on the front. odd shaped bottle. nice 2 finger thick creamy head that is resilient. hazy burnt orange appearance. almost no nose at all. Incredibly light with a tiny bit of citrus. Sweet honey, clove, oranges, chalk, dense and then fleeting. leaves a sweet english hop flavor.

750mL bottle. Pours clear gold with a smallish white head. Aroma is floral and bready and full of grapefruit, pineapple, grass, and pine. Taste is grapefruit, citrus, and a growing pine. Fairly sweet upfront with a long, lasting, relatively strong bitterness in the finish. Light-medium body. Medium carbonation, close to lively.

Golden pale, hazy, with thin white head. Grapefruit, honeysuckle, flower, apple scents. Medium-strong bitterness rounded out with a mild malty sweetness. Has a fairly easy drinking up front, but slightly strong after taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Keg at Flying Saucer, Houston. It pours clear golden - amber with a medium white head. The aroma is fresh, bready, juicy, bright grapefruit character, grassy, danky, spring onion and stewed nectarine/peach. The taste is crisp, bitter, dank, grassy, green hoppage, grapefruit, minerals, light spice and light alcohol with a drying finish. Medium body and moderate, prickly carbonation. Rather tasty stuff.
