Initially Pioneer I: Yellow Rose, later on became a regular.

A SMaSH, Single Malt and Single Hop, IPA using a caboodle (technical term for a large amount of malt) of malt and a new hop released in 2012 called Mosaic (HBC 369). It is a daughter of Simcoe (YCR 14), one of our favorite hops. Whole cone Mosaic is used for bittering, flavoring, and aroma in the kettle; it is also massively dry hopped. The beer is named after a Texas Heroine.

Tasting notes: chalk-white head with a very clean malt backbone. The hops impart strong grapefruit, pineapple, and blueberry flavor and aroma. A strong beer that is extremely quaffable.

This is an amazing Smash IPA. The mosaic hop is brilliantly used in it. The balanced flavor of malt versus hop makes this very smooth and easily drinkable. Pours a golden color with a huge amount of fluffy head that laces the glass all the way down. The smell is floral and citrus with a bitter undertone that barely makes an appearance in the taste. If you get a chance to have this beer grab it.

750 ml bottle poured a hazy gold with a small lasting off white head. Aromas of straw, chalk, lemon zest and light grassiness. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, grassiness, light grapefruit and light pine with a smooth dry lingering moderately bitter finish.

This has been my favorite beer since I moved to Texas. In my opinion, this should be the beer for The Republic of Texas, not that Lone Star swill!

On tap at Little Woodrow’s. Hazy golden amber pour with a white head. Grapefruit hop bouquet. While grapefruit dominates, there is a pleasant orange undercurrent. A fluttering of eucalyptus and herbal hops. Sturdy Malt backbone with tasty caramel backbeats. Good body and mouthfeel. A damn fine IPA.

750, light yellow. Slightly hoppy, low bitterness. Lotus of greens, Grassy, weedy, underbrush. Under-hopped for the amount of malt in my opinion. Like it was an IPA hopped in APA territory. Not seeing what the fuss is about.

Finally, Houston, and Texas in general, have a IPA to be proud of. No better beer to crush on a 100 degree day than Yellow Rose.

One of the best IPAs in the world; I’ve had hundreds of them. Very bright citrus flavor, very smooth and not overly bitter. If you love a smooth, fruity, clean and pleasant IPA, this is for you.

Capped 750 mL bottle thanks to Secret Santa Summer 2015! Hazy straw yellow, large foamy white head, decent retention. Aroma of mango, pineapple, tangerine, pale malt. The taste is mango, papaya, pineapple, citrus, mild pine and resin, pale malt. Medium bodied, moderate lingering bitterness, well balanced. This is a very nice beer.
