Taste like a combination of expired milk, wet naps, and over grown celery stalk.

Beer with my BBQ. Pale yellow. Corn and grain aroma. Taste is lightly sweet. Thin body and medium high carb. Basically PBR.

355 ml boks.

There are lot of regional adjunct lagers that are beloved in their area of origin, but nowhere else since theyíre all essentially the same. Pittsburgh has Iron City, Baltimore has National Bohemian and Texas has Lone Star Beer. This really doesnít have any qualities (or demerits) that none of the other beers of its ilk donít have. Itís a standard, familiar and rather boring lager.

I poured a 12oz bottle into a mug. It had a best before date of 9/1/15 and cost $1.39 ($0.12 per ounce).

Appearance: Pure golden color with near crystal clarity and carbonation visible. Pours to a small, white, soapy head which mostly evaporates and leaves no lacing.

Smell: Initially quite skunky like a green bottle import, but eventually becomes that of generic adjunct lager. Some cereal grain sweetness, but no distinctive traits. No noticeable flaws, either.

Taste: Not too many beers aside from Budweiser use rice as an adjunct, though I think thatís what Lone Star uses as itís noticeably sweet up front but doesnít have the raw corn flavor often found in beers and malt liquors of this type. No discernible hop presence in the form of flavor or bitterness. A bit of a metallic tang on the finish and a slight vegetable character in the aftertaste. Mostly, this palette is inoffensive and unexciting once you get used to it. Thatís not intended to be a compliment, though.

Drinkability: You want a fizzy yellow lager? Thatís what you get with this: though not so much ďfizzyĒ as it is genuinely crisp and controlled rather than spastic. The mouthfeel is paper thin, though the texture is clean as is the aftertaste (many brews like this tend to be oily). At 4.65% ABV, Lone Star Beer is arguable sessionable; though I wouldnít particularly recommend it considering how mild the palette is.

Score: 4/10

Draft in a plastic cup while waiting in line at La Barbecue, Austin, TX. Aroma is sweet grain and mild corn. What this beer has going for it is it has no flaws. It is brewed the way a lager should be. Clean and smooth corn and grain. No skunky off putting notes. Really not to bad.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into pilsner glass. Appearance: pours a thick foamy white head that drops slowly with some mild lacing. Color is pale straw with abundant streaming carbonation. Aroma: mild aroma of corn and a bit of lightly toasted malt. Mouthfeel: light, crisp with a refreshing dry finish. Flavor: corn sweetness dominates with the barley sweetness taking a back seat and just a hint of hop presence. Overall: pedestrian but not offensive. A good lawnmower beer.

355ml bottle BB Sep 2015, 4.6%, my bottle says itís produced in Fort Worth, and also says íBrewed in Texasí. Ratebeer says itís brewed in California. Either way, itís pale yellow, clear, sparkling, small foamy white head. Aroma is fluffy toy, pencil sharpenings. Body is medium, foamy, tingly carbonation. Taste is thin, tangy, very light biscuity malt, alcohol is detectable despite the low ABV. Sodawater. A beer this bland canít be offensive.

Typical American light lager. Light on everything, especially flavor. Not worth having except ice cold in a heat wave.
