COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A golden lager, clear as a mountain stream. This is a traditional Bavarian helles, bready and malty with a slight noble hop character. Straight from mama’s kitchen!

December 28th, 2011 - Three beers in and practically foaming at the mouth at the idea of having a brewery very close to home, I proceeded down the light from light to dark to take in Lone Tree Brewing’s Mountain Mama Helles. Although it might be hindered by the strictures of a tasting glass, the smell is muted, and what aroma I can detect is primarily composed of apple juice and a regular wheat aroma, light and sort of dispassionate. The palate is thick and hale, communicating light flavors of apple (like the smell) with a basic wheat beer profile (like the aroma.) The general contours of the taste seem a little flat, but perk up a bit with the introduction of a long aftertaste featuring the sour peal of green apple. It’s a light beer, no doubt about it, and a find intermediate between the upcoming dark brews and the lighter, paler offerings from earlier, but it doesn’t stand out very much. Although it’s not a compliment, I am more excited for the next beer, and less enthusiastic about dwelling on the Mountain Mama Helles.

draft. clear gold, small white head, no lasting retention. neutral cereal grain and sweet corn nose; little to no hop or yeast presence in the aroma. medium body, which is quite thick for a helles - the mouthfeel is syrupy and a bit goopy, far too thick and round, and the low carbonation doesn’t help either. makes the experience almost sludgy. flavor is mild neutral pale malt (honey, biscuits, crackers, etc.). light transparent and flavorless hop bitterness late.

Lightly hazy golden body - nose of straw, grass, hay, honey - fairly full and creamy in the mouth - a bit sweet at first, but with a light mineral notes to balance - moderately grassy hop flavor - a bit of floral notes - lightly sweet and fruity finish - pretty tasty.

Slightly hazy straw gold, thin filmy head. Aroma has some bready overtones with some good ol German pale malts. Taste is smooth and crisp and flavorful. Kinda bready and grainy, in a good way. Nice biscuity yeast finish, smooth, semi sweet and lagerful.

Pour is slightly hazy yellow with off white head at brewery, aroma is nice sweet biscuit, bitter grass, hints of earth and spice. Taste is nice mix of sweet biscuit and pils malt, hints of slight grass and hay, earth dries it out. Nicely done and quite a surprise!
