3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Elwood (2493) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - APR 26, 2010
Serving: Draft.
It pours a very dark brown with garnet highlights. The nose is aggressive with notes of roasted malt, chocolate, and a touch of fruitiness. The taste has a solid bitterness to it. The roasted malt is there is a big way but there is enough malt sweetness and chocolate to help even things out. A slight earthiness is there too. Medium body, medium carbonation and a medium to long roasty finish. Overall a very solid porter that I would buy again.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JCB (3811) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - APR 18, 2010
Bottle from Whole Foods, Durham. Nice surprising porter from a young local brewery. Rich dark brown pour, thick and chewy looking, with a moderate head and very nice lacing. Fruity nose was my first surprise, a nice touch shot through the full chocolate aromas that emerge quickly. Slight taste of bitter hops at first, tends to complement the sweeter flavors really well, with a moderate roasted quality that comes in at the finish to accentuate the bitters. Really enjoyable brew!

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown, almost black with some amber and a thin tan head. Aroma is medium woody, roasted chocolate aroma with some sweet notes. Flavor starts out a bit sweet and crisp but then tails off into a very nice roasted chocolate coffee finish. I bought this beer just because I was in Raleigh and hadn’t heard of it before but really enjoyed it. I will buy LoneRider again.

Black pour with small tan head which quickly dissipated. Aroma of coffee, molasses, some chocolate, and possibly raisins. Taste: This was a roasty porter - with coffee and molasses dominating. Nice, slightly chewy texture. Finishes with some light to moderate hop bitterness and roasted chocolate. Nice.

Bottle. Nearly black in color, small light tan head. Strong malty aroma with some toffee. Full-bodied brew, very malty, some notes of brown sugar and licorice with a bourbon, boozy finish. A very solid, interesting beer, although I don’t think I would have guessed it was a porter.

Bottle shared by daknole -- thanks! Pours a thin dark amber hue. Smells of smoke and yeast. Approximates a scotch ale with a strange note of black pepper. Unsure what I think about this one.

Thanks Emacgee. Dark pour with a tan head that went from two fingers to one. Aroma of roasted malt and lactose sugar. Nice roasted malt flavor, little sweet, low carbonation. Leaves a nice roasted malt afterrtaste. Very nice lacing.

Thanks to Ucusty for the bottle! Wow, what a nice porter. It pours brown with a small but lasting tan head. The aroma is of roasted malt and coffee with a little smoke and lactose. The flavor is very dry and roasted with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, smoke and ash in the finish. Loved it.
