3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours dark and full bodied with a wispy light tan head. Nose shows day old cold pressed coffee and an acidic character. Very muddled aroma, hard to distinguish finer aromatics. Flavor is kind of the same, doesn’t have much structure. The pieces are there but they’re not coming together. Some day old coffee and chocolaty flavor with that weird thin feeling from coffee but the body from oats and lactose. Very disjointed.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2013 22 oz bottle at the 2014 Secret Stash Bash (Atlanta).
Dark brown; clear but near opaque.
Coffee! Coffee at or higher than a Founders Breakfast Stout level. But it lacks the richness, complexity and balance of the best coffee stouts. Very mild bitterness; in fact lightly sweet until the more or less balanced finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black, ring of foam. Smells - and I’m not kidding here - like Count Chocula. Seriously. Much more coffee in the flavor, but still lots of chocolate. I get a subtle winey note, too. Very enjoyable.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a sumptuous dark-chocolate brown with a fairly thick, if not persistent, tan head. Aroma fills the nose with cocoa, coffee, toffee, and subtle molasses and hoppy tones. Gets me a-goin’ like one of Pavlov’s pooches. Flavor trots chocolate, coffee, toffee, caramel and molasses notes across the tongue, along with a snip of hops and a pepper-like zing. Texture is smooth, firm and fizzy, quite satisfying going down. OK - pistols at dawn - ten paces - no attack cockatiels--

I was sucked into this purchase by my local joint as they said only 9 cases made it to GA and my store rarely gets the super hard to get. I hope I dont regret the price tag. Meaning it needs to be a 3.9+ to make me not feel so bad. Here we go. Pour is midnight black with tan head and not much of any lacing. Smell is mix of milk chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, creamy malts, lactose. With the coffee being the donminating force. I will mention that the smell is a bit muddled though and just slightly strange in a way that I cannot describe. Taste shows a bunch of mild flavors, all of which I would like to be amped up a bit more. The coffee and chocolate swirl with just a hint of dark fruits. Lactose is present, but it is still is a bit thinner than one would expect in a sweet stout. Good overall, but not great. Thus, my statement on it being worth the price tag - well its no 4+er.
