Pours topaz brown and clear with a decent beige white head that hangs awhile. Aroma is cocoa malt. Taste is malt chocolate. Milk taste too. Very mild hops on the back and some alcohol and bitter. Smooth drinking brew.

Nice American style brown ale. A bit higher alcohol. Chocolate notes. The description mentions hop bitterness but I don't taste it. Good beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: DEC 16, 2013 Aroma is a bit nutty, taste is nice, not hoppy which we don’t like. Not chocolate, even though it says so. It’s cheaper then Highlands Gaelic and at least a tie if not tastier. Oh and....higher alcohol content for that fun evening! Really, this is a fantastic beer at a great price. Go to beer for us! Update: This has become our favorite go-to beer. Stood the test of time for months now. Great taste at a great price. We’ve had many pricier beers that have left us looking for our Josie. She’s hard to beat.

Typical American Brown. Light roast and hop flavors. Easy drinking but otherwise not too much going on.

12 ounce bottle - $1.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.
I see where they attempted a printed on "best before" date, but, unfortunately, it’s smudged off. A teeny bit of lacing present.
Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brown body with a medium-small, soft-looking, light beige head.
Smell: Deep toast, roast, oven-roasted nuts with chocolate and touches of molasses and blackened caramel. Quite malty. Only offset by some slight, fruity esters.
Taste: You’ve got your roast, your heavy toast, your charred nuts, and your chocolate powder, with accents of burnt caramel and molasses. It’s a brown ale. Lightly estery. Moderately sweet. A little hop flavor beyond the malts, with a little bitterness showing that plays well with the nuttiness and roasty tones. Drying, malty finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Overall: Easy drinking, (dark side of) malty brown ale.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Appreciably dark in color for a standard brown, and unexpectedly topped with a barely cream, slowly sinking head. Very sweet aroma that smells not unlike malty milk. Taste is less sweet than expected, and wonderfully rich while having very low viscosity. Unfortunately, the palate loses all the softness that maintained balance, and the aftertaste is unenjoyable. Having expected far too sweet a beer based on the aroma, the mouthfeel begs for anything but dry-bitter chocolate malt. Not a bad beer, but there are many better browns. Coulda’ fooled me with her looks though - bottle and pour.

Bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a small lasting creamy tan head. Aromas of cocoa, carmel, nuttiness and light eartrhinerss. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of cocoa, earthiness and nuts with a smooth lingering cocoa finish.

Good lael; clear, dark cola brown beer with a thin bone colored head. Almost burnt, very lightly sweet aroma. Light, but mouthy enough. Short nutty finish. Sweetish, nutty, roasty, not fruity at all. Very good. Thanks LuckyDog.
