Bottle into pint glass, deep ruby brown with tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate, caramel, very light coffee, roasty malt sweetness and slight earthy note, Taste brings out more notes of bakers chocolate, nuttiness, char, molasses and earthy hop bitterness. Medium body, low carbonation, dry with bitter roasty finish. Nice dry chocolate, earthy hop leaning brown ale.

On tap from Quince on 10/25/13. Dark brown hue with a light brown mostly lasting head. Good lacing. Malty chocolate taste up front with a light malt/chocolate finish. Toffee hints on the nose. Oily texture with medium alcohol finish on the palate.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
A malt forward aroma with hints chocolate and caramel. Pours ruddy brown with a thin tan head and minimal lacing. The taste roasted malt, chocolate, biscuit, and a nice balanced bitter finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Overall, a excellent brown ale verging on a porter.

a decent brown ale, overall. am somewhat suprised that it scored as high as it did here, but perhaps i am hung up on the style. I am probably more inclined to enjoy a light porter than a brown ale. no explaining it. had on tap at Lillys pizza in durham. pours a transparent brown with a bit of lacing on top. mouthfeel is light but taste is reminiscent of darker beer- chocolate, earthiness, malt. some hops but have to sort of close your eyes and use your imagination. actually paired decently with the mushroom pizza- all that earthy goodness working together. good. enjoyable.

On tap at The DIstrict Rooftop Bar. Pours a dark chestnut brown. Aroma is earthy with some wet coffee ground notes and cocoa. More earth and bitter than roasty and malty. Full body with moderate bitter coffee sting. It works overall.
