A temptress that will seduce you, but leave your wallet feeling empty. Sweet Josie is crafted in the American Brown style. This is a complex beer balancing a nice hop bitterness with a generous amount of chocolate and aromatic malts.

UPDATED: DEC 3, 2014 a decent brown ale, overall. am somewhat suprised that it scored as high as it did here, but perhaps i am hung up on the style. I am probably more inclined to enjoy a light porter than a brown ale. no explaining it. had on tap at Lillys pizza in durham. pours a transparent brown with a bit of lacing on top. mouthfeel is light but taste is reminiscent of darker beer- chocolate, earthiness, malt. some hops but have to sort of close your eyes and use your imagination. actually paired decently with the mushroom pizza- all that earthy goodness working together. good. enjoyable. 6/24/2014 On tap at Ben’s Tune up. Better than I remembered. And one of the only brown ales I will happily drink a pint of. Nice deep brown color with red hues. Nice weight to it as well- like a light porter. Still a bit sweet and malty, but some hop presence balances it out. Really good for the style. 12/2/2014 Still really like it. Nice earthy and sweet malty notes. Smooth. Dare I call it the standard brown ale?

For an often boring style.. This is pretty good. Thanks shrubber85. Aromas of milk chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Nice sweet caramel and coffee flavors with a finishing hop bite.

Aromas are grapey, caramel, fig, toast, some chocolate. Somewhat clear, brown, minimal head fades pretty quickly. Mostly dry, fruity, plum, nutty, bitterness as it finishes creates a pleasant balance. Medium bodied, good carbonation.

Location: Draft at Cowbell, 2/17/15

Aroma: It has a sweet aroma of chocolate, toffee, and caramel malts.
Appearance: Pours a clear reddish-brown color with a beige head and decent lace.
Flavor: It has a fairly sweet flavor, with a minimal bitterness.
Palate: Has a creamy mouthfeel, light-medium bodied, clean and easy drinking.
Overall Impression: Thought this was pretty decent but not amazing. Definitely worth trying. Could use a little balance.

Finally I discovered that I am not really into brown ales. Well, malty and sweetish with some big nutty aroma in the back. An ok one but I thought it was a bit difficult to drink.

Bottle from gopherfan99 - thank you, Steve. The beer has got a deep dark brown colour with a steady head and medium body. Aroma of malt, bread and cake. Taste of mild malt, barley, mild choclate, dark bread, cake and mild hops. Light bitter finish. Good and solid Ale, enjoyed it.

Really good brown ale. It is very close in flavor to Railhouse Ka-Bar brown. Give it a try.

You dont tend to see many good malty browns out there and in my opinion this one of the better ones I have had. That being said my first beer was a Newcastle and have always been a fan of the style, always trying new ones as they appear. This is still one of the better for the style.
