A temptress that will seduce you, but leave your wallet feeling empty. Sweet Josie is crafted in the American Brown style. This is a complex beer balancing a nice hop bitterness with a generous amount of chocolate and aromatic malts.

Bottle. The pour was a hazy medium brown with a large (2-3 finger) white rocky head that pretty much lasted throughout and had some fair streaky lacing. The aroma was of a dark roasted malt, an earthy hop and a light leathery yeast with notes of milk chocolate, a mild coffee odor, a touch of caramel and a bit of nuttiness. The taste was nice and malty and a bit nutty with a hint of chocolate in the beginning and then a pronounced hoppiness took hold with hints of coffee and maybe a little brown sugar towards the end. The flavor hung around for an average amount of time after the swallow letting the hoppy malt taste linger for a little while. Mouthfeel was just about medium in body with the texture being quite creamy and a tad dry with an almost prickly carbonation. Overall a fantastic Brown Ale that had just the right amount of bitter sweetness and a surprising hoppiness at the end.

On tap at The Hamilton. Nice dark brown body with medium head. Nose of malts, roastiness, nuts. Taste is malts a plenty, sweet, nuts, chocolate and some toffee. Good stuff.

Amber to medium dark. Slightly hoppy finish. More full bodied than other browns. Draft is rich. Changed a year ago from bottle to can at local stores and not the same. Mistake. Good overall but suggest Big Boss Bad Penny for local Raleigh brown ale.

Very nice brown ale that leaves a smooth chocolate / malty taste on the palate - giving a very nice finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Brown color with red shades, large compact head. The aroma is a bit yeasty, but the malt flavor is quite nice, a bit of sweet chocolate, not much bitter. Smooth.

Orange highlights. Brown yet attractive. Lace and some retention. Grainy malty start almost porterish. Clean and nice mouthfeel. Some body to it. Light finish.

On tap at VCBW Festival, pours a deep dark brownish amber with a medium white head. Aroma brings out toasted malts and toasted nuts. Flavour is quite deep, with toasted nuts, dry cocoa and toasted malt. Well-balanced and actually quite deep for a brown. Nice stuff.

Pours a deep chestnut brown color with a true nut and malt aroma. Taste is clean, simple, but yet complex. Flavor of brown malt, chocolate, and coffee. A slight hint of sweetness, caramel, and , molasses. This beer was very enjoyable with light bitterness in the aftertaste and good overall smooth flavor.

Draft @ RDU Indigo. Low aroma, a little sweetness. Dark brown color, white head, dissipates quickly. Taste is pretty sweet. Didn’t notice any hop bitterness. Med bodied. Overall, a pretty good American Brown. Not really my style.

Can from Whole Foods Market in GA. Aroma is sweet, toasted malts, chocolate. Taste is a touch of hops with a nice malt underbelly. Very balanced...reminded me of something (anything) from Anchor
