COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A temptress that will seduce you, but leave your wallet feeling empty. Sweet Josie is crafted in the American Brown style. This is a complex beer balancing a nice hop bitterness with a generous amount of chocolate and aromatic malts.

Bottle. The pour was a hazy medium brown with a large (2-3 finger) white rocky head that pretty much lasted throughout and had some fair streaky lacing. The aroma was of a dark roasted malt, an earthy hop and a light leathery yeast with notes of milk chocolate, a mild coffee odor, a touch of caramel and a bit of nuttiness. The taste was nice and malty and a bit nutty with a hint of chocolate in the beginning and then a pronounced hoppiness took hold with hints of coffee and maybe a little brown sugar towards the end. The flavor hung around for an average amount of time after the swallow letting the hoppy malt taste linger for a little while. Mouthfeel was just about medium in body with the texture being quite creamy and a tad dry with an almost prickly carbonation. Overall a fantastic Brown Ale that had just the right amount of bitter sweetness and a surprising hoppiness at the end.

Deep brown coloured body with a thick, three centimetre tall tan head, rather soapy as well. Aroma of nuts, pecans, earth, malt, caramel and some walnuts in the mix as well - very nice and strong. Light-bodied; Strong nutty flavours of pecans, peanuts and light malt with a rather sweet and almost sour note showing some very subdued earthiness and a hint of grape flavour as well. Aftertaste is very much on the lighter side with the fruits coming out more than an earthiness and a little light sweetness coupled with some dry, oaky flavours is noticeable - interesting. Overall, a very odd brown ale that is very much on the light side of the spectrum with a lot of nuts and malt in the nose but almost nothing noticeable in the taste and finish - very light and airy throughout with not at all a cloying flavour. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Crystal City Wine Shop (12th Street) in Arlington, Virginia on 22-July-2014 for US$2,09 sampled a block away in Washington on 16-September-2014.

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2014 Reminds me of Newcastle Brown ale with just a bit more story behind this beer. Not as heavy as a traditional brown ale can be but still heavy in its own right. I won’t be buying this beer again primarily because I am not really into brown ales. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown beer with a sticky tan head. Dusty grain nose that brings to mind dry dog food. Sweet malt taste with some buttered burnt toast, brown sugar, and dried apple notes. A bit of sweetened chocolate in the finish. Okay brown.

Poured from tap. Pours a rich brown with red highlights, creamy off white head - leaves a lot of lacing. Aroma - subtle, but malt and chocolate are there. Taste - chocolate, malt, subtle hops, nice finish. Really nice brown.

Asheville, NC - Bruisin’ Ales - 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep chocolate-like dark brown with a bubbly off-white head. Aroma has some light chocolate accents, some nuttiness, a touch of licorice. Flavor is pleasantly sweet with some cocoa accents, a touch of licorice, a hint of molasses. Mouthfeel is a bit on the starchy side, but not a major detractor. Decent.
