3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. The pour was a hazy medium brown with a large (2-3 finger) white rocky head that pretty much lasted throughout and had some fair streaky lacing.
The aroma was of a dark roasted malt, an earthy hop and a light leathery yeast with notes of milk chocolate, a mild coffee odor, a touch of caramel and a bit of nuttiness.
The taste was nice and malty and a bit nutty with a hint of chocolate in the beginning and then a pronounced hoppiness took hold with hints of coffee and maybe a little brown sugar towards the end. The flavor hung around for an average amount of time after the swallow letting the hoppy malt taste linger for a little while.
Mouthfeel was just about medium in body with the texture being quite creamy and a tad dry with an almost prickly carbonation.
Overall a fantastic Brown Ale that had just the right amount of bitter sweetness and a surprising hoppiness at the end.

Bottle from Village Wine and Spirits in Athens. Minimal roast malt nose, some chocolate. Medium dark brown, tan head. Light roast malt initial / a touch of hopping in mid / not much more. Thin body. Bland. Fairly boring. Drinkable.

Taster on tap at Barley’s during RBWG 2014. Wow, really interesting aroma. Hint of smoked, light fruitiness. Good lightly spicy hop, chocolate malt. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation, more dry finish. Dark red color. Nice thin khaki head. Some ropes and dots of lace. Moderate bitter taste, minimal sweet taste. Nice long aftertaste. Really nice stuff. Very enjoyable.

Poured from 12 ounce bottle bought at The Veggie Wagon, Carolina Beach, North Carolina, tasted on August 9, 201. Dark brown/ruby color, small tan head, nice sweet malty aroma, medium body, slick texture, good sweet taste held back somewhat by some chemical notes but still not bad at all.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Aroma drops hints of coffee, malt, and chocolate. Pours reddish brown with a light tan head which fades to the rim with a little lace in the center. Taste starts to follow the aroma, but fades into something I can’t place—some kind of toasty bread or something. This beer smells and tastes like a full working bakery. Great all around.

I think this may be my new favorite of the Lonerider line, a well done brown ale. A transparent brown appearance, doesn’t look too heavy. aroma and flavor likewise is of pleasant intensity, featuring roasted malts, caramel and cocoa notes, maybe some coffee but not consistently present. Finishes again not completely clean but not sticky. Seems to consistently strike a golden mean. I will be sure to sample this again.

Bottle picked up at some point on trip to my folks (I think whole foods in greenville). Dark brown with off-white head. Aroma is roasty malt, nutty, cocoa. Taste is also nutty, but not overly sweet - which is good for me. Also caramel, citrus and chocolate bitter. Little burnt coffee vibe. I’m not a fan of typical sweet browns, but liked this.
