COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This full bodied amber ale is modeled after the "altbiers" of Dusseldorf, Germany. Our top fermenting yeast and cold finishing temperature result in a complex, yet clean, full flavor.

Smells strongly of sweet caramel malts. Taste is watery with a distinct lack of the sweet malts you smell. Not bad, but nothing to write home about

This one was a pretty good hit, nice smooth caramel taste and some decent hop profile. Maybe a little bit too clear, but I could drink alot of these without having to sacrifice flavor. A real good balance between malt and hop that doesnt go further than it needs to.

On tap. Aroma of caramel malt, flowery hops. Flavor takes a step back into light-bodied sweetness. A decent beer that has many superior friends.

On tap. Pours a clear dark amber with a small white head. Aroma of sweet malt. Flavor of sweet malt, some flowery hops. Palate is slightly watery compared to other light-bodied pale ales, alts, or ambers, but it’s not terrible. Very drinkable and a nice option on tap.

4/20/08 notes: bottle. Nose of soft malts and some wood, nothing too prominent. Mouthfeel is soft, with medium thickness. Flavor is sweet with a slight hop character, earthy notes and caramel. A simple, well-blended ale/alt good for sessioning.

Poured copper/dark yellow with a foamy white head. Smells light of nuts and malty. The taste is nutty and malty with a little sweetness and a hint of spice. Kind of a creamy mouthfeel. Clean all around, with a good finish. Not bad.

Naming this beer an ’Ale" instead of an ’Altbier’ may be a blunder on Long Trail’s marketing department. This is a copper bodied, spiced malt beer with a hint of dough yeast and some bitterness would be better named ’Long Trail Alt’. It’s Ale qualities are definitely influenced from the Rhineland and not the Union Jack.
