Tap. Pale amber beer with a thin creamy head. Aroma of slightly spicy UK-style hops. A bit of metallic character and slightly cidery as well. Flavour shows a bit of light maltiness. Orange marmalade and light cherry esters. Decent, but a bit bland.

This alt doesn’t have the crisp drinkability of a top notch alt but it’s in the ballpark and is certainly good. This is a solid brewery.

Medium body, copper colored ale. Smells fruity/citrus, Ireally love the aroma of this beer, easy to find at most grocery stores.

Bottle, from mug. Bottled 09/22/06; released 3 months later. Copper-amber color. Frothy foam fades fast; fairly frilly farewell. Aroma is citrus with a buttery note. Medium body, slick texture, strong carbonation. Flavor of bitter hops atop mild caramel. Hops turn metallic in the finish.

Enjoyed a pint of this one on draught at the brewery in Bridgewater Corners, VT. Long Trail has been a favortie of mine for years, and Long Trail Ale, is a beer I really love. This beer is a very good domestic example of altbier, with lots of good hop and malt character. This beer pours to a beautiful, bright, deep copper color, with a thick, white head, and a good carbonation. The nose on this beer is excellent, with lots of good zesty/herbal hop aromas. and hints of light fruit. The palate is firm, with good nutty/toasty malt flavor, on a clean, smooth, round body. This beer finishes with more of those great malt flavors up front, then ends with a zesty burst of herbal hop bitterness that lingers. Excellent altbier, a beer I could pound with impunity. Made a fantastic match with a hot cup of VT cheddar cheese soup at the brewery.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 pnista (1007) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - DEC 9, 2006
Pours a rich amber to a very light ruby to maroon with orange tinges and a thin white head. The nose is fruity (berry) and light with floral hops and a caramel sweetness. The mouthfeel is good for a session beer, not too thin, but not too fizzy. The flavor is up there too. Lightly sweet with dry fruity acidity. Bears a lot of similarities to a minerally white wine. A little creamy, the finish is dry fruity sweetness, with a crisp hop bite, but nothing too big. There’s a slight lingering bitterness. This is much cleaner than the Double Bag I had last night. A really pleasant session beer.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 tcruicks (282) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - DEC 9, 2006
Clear orange in color with a small bubbly white head. Malty, grassy, a touch of citrus fruits and a touch of caramel. This beer is highly drinkable and full of flavor, not bad overall.
