COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Long Trail Ale is a full-bodied amber ale modeled after the “Alt-biers” of Düsseldorf, Germany. Our top fermenting yeast and cold finishing temperature result in a complex, yet clean, full flavor. Originally introduced in November of 1989, Long Trail Ale beer quickly became, and remains, the largest selling craft-brew in Vermont. It is a multiple medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival.

Felt like a restrained version of what the pedigree, look and packaging hinted at. Still, pleasant to drink and with interesting enough mouthfeel. Nothing wrong, just feels like it under delivers on great potential.

Bottle complements of whatever dummy left it under the bush in my front yard. Amber pour with silky white head. Apple, caramel, biscuit, citrus, soy sauce. Lightly bitter. Moderately sweet. A little bit tart. Medium, smooth body. Somewhat astringent. Better than I expected.

12 oz bottle served in tulip. Golden amber color. Soft thin off white head doesn’t last long. Some lacing. Weak malty aroma, no significant notes. Taste is very lightly sweet with a touch of bitterness. Average carbonation. Light bodied with a thin texture. Abrupt finish. Not bad but nothing special.

Bottle. Pours copper with a creamy white head. Aromas of caramel, plum and raisin. Flavors are caramel with herbal tones and fruity notes. Creamy mouthfeel. Not bad.

Bottle to shaker glass, pours clear dark amber, two finger off white head, decent lacing with some retention. Aroma of bread and grass. Taste is medium sweet only a touch of bitterness. Light bodied, lively carbonation, metallic like mouth feel. Finishes dry. Tasting notes of bread, herbs, toffee, pear and grass. It’s OK, but nothing to write home about.

Bottle. Aroma is mix of malt, yeasty dough and resin. Appearance is clear medium brown (think root beer) with good sparkling and nice inch-thick foamy off white head with decent retention and good lacing. Taste is more sweet than bitter but a mix. Not terribly complex. Palate is light to medium bodied with average carbonation and moderate finish, mildly bitter. Overall, interesting smelling and above average appearance for a highly drinkable but fairly average tasting/mouth feel beer.

Poured a dark copper color with very malty, fruity aroma.. also a faint whiff of piny hops. Tastes of dark fruit and malt plus a mild hoppiness.

Pours an amber from a bottle. A caramelly nose and slight sweet malty flavor are kind of overshadowed by the thin, almost vinegary palate.

I poured it from a bottle into a pint glass. It pours an amber color with a nice head and some lacing. The aroma is caramel and malt. The taste was a crisp and bready malt with a hint of hops. This was a solid and very drinkable amber.
