Long Trail Ale is a full-bodied amber ale modeled after the “Alt-biers” of Düsseldorf, Germany. Our top fermenting yeast and cold finishing temperature result in a complex, yet clean, full flavor. Originally introduced in November of 1989, Long Trail Ale beer quickly became, and remains, the largest selling craft-brew in Vermont. It is a multiple medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival.

Copper colored, thin head that quickly dissipated. A nice, strong malty smell to it. The sweet malt is the first flavor, then mild bitter, grapefruit and a solid bitter ending. It works well together. Medium body, moderate carbonation.

Bottle. Aroma is mix of malt, yeasty dough and resin. Appearance is clear medium brown (think root beer) with good sparkling and nice inch-thick foamy off white head with decent retention and good lacing. Taste is more sweet than bitter but a mix. Not terribly complex. Palate is light to medium bodied with average carbonation and moderate finish, mildly bitter. Overall, interesting smelling and above average appearance for a highly drinkable but fairly average tasting/mouth feel beer.

Poured a dark copper color with very malty, fruity aroma.. also a faint whiff of piny hops. Tastes of dark fruit and malt plus a mild hoppiness.

Pours an amber from a bottle. A caramelly nose and slight sweet malty flavor are kind of overshadowed by the thin, almost vinegary palate.

I poured it from a bottle into a pint glass. It pours an amber color with a nice head and some lacing. The aroma is caramel and malt. The taste was a crisp and bready malt with a hint of hops. This was a solid and very drinkable amber.

12 oz bottle in a pint glass. A hearty amber colored beer. More hearty and hoppy and less sweet than a typcial American amber, I think this is actually an altbier.

Nothing impressive here. Run of the mill ale. “Remains the largest selling craft-brew in Vermont” Really?

Drank from the bottle. Aroma is comprised of lemon, banana, clove, and caramel. Taste was extremely strange to me, on first sip It tasted like green beans. But as I got further into the beer the floral notes mixed with the lemon to make this beer a little better. Medium bodied beer with heavy carbonation and a sticky mouth feel. Could have just have been me on this day but I find this beer to be weird, not bad, just not a taste that I like.

Poured as a taster - will re-rate once I have a full serving. Pours a nice amber color with little white head. Aroma of malt and some hops. Taste - malt, subtle hop notes. I imagine this would go well with food.
