Commercial Description:
Light, crisp and refreshing, Blackbeary Wheat is modeled after the spontaneously fermented "Lambics" of Belgium. Real blackberries added to the fermentation contribute a subtle fruitiness to this Summer Quencher! Available May through August.

Looks like a wheat beer with a dose of blackberries in the flavor (seem like concentrate, similar to leinenkugels). I’ve made this style before and usually pack a lot more ingredients together to avoid having a watery candy flavored beer. I can’t believe the description mentions "lambics." No complexity. Makes Lindemans look stellar.

Pour is yellow, with a medium white head. Aroma is fruity, some wheat. Flavor is light, some blackberry, but not extreme. Wheat in the flavor is too light, very thing mouthfeel. Overall not bad, but a little light and slightly lacking in most categories.

Bottle. Pours a large, frothy, white head. Clear, pale yellow body. Indistinct fruity sweetness in the nose. Flavor is of sweet malt, and faint, miscellaneous berry juice. Light body, prickly carbonation...somewhat thin. Crisp and clean finish. No bitterness. Overall a somewhat boring, but inoffensive beer. Could use some more a more distinct wheat malt presence and a bit more bitterness.

Bottle. Pale yellow with a large creamy, lacing white head. Nose is sort of reminiscent of nail polish, might be acetone, with light bg berries. Taste is smooth, light wheat and fruitiness. No bitterness, just a strand-of-grain wheat painting. Smooth and light but not watery. Lightly jammy. Extremely inoffensive, though a little too sweet, but man, for a hot day of baseball watching or lawn mowing, this is one hell of a chugging beer.

(Bottle (stamped "060409") from Lou’s Beverage Barn) Pours clear light yellow with a few fingers of slightly off-white head. Looks much like a pale lager. Aroma of light candy-like sweet berries and some light wheat malt. Mouthfeel is kind of dryish and prickly, slightly wooden. Flavor is sort of sweet and lightly berryish, perhaps along the lines of a fruit-flavored seltzer water. Ehh, it’s pretty bland.
