3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
22 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA opened on 6/2/11. Pours a slightly hazy dark golden color with a large frothy white head. Average head retention and decent lacing. Aroma of big toffee malts, citrus and earthy hop notes, some candied citrus, booze and a bit of a chemical note. The taste is leafy, vegetal, citrus and tropical hops. Some faint malts in the background. Medium bodied.

On tap at Capones. Poured a medium and hazy golden color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of floral hops, citrus, toasty, and some pine. Tastes of citrus, the same floralness, pine, and some caramel. Lacing left on the glass.

3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
One of the best things I have had from this brewery. Very good balanced DIPA, very drinkable. Tasty orange citrus, hops up front hitting the style, good malt backbone. Above average mouthfeel. Slightly tart.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
651mL thanks to beerandblues2. The pour is a hazy, bright yellow with a thick, off-white head. Nice retention and lace. Nose is sulfur, lemon, older/cheesy/stale hops, sugar, apples. Taste is dryer, stoney, lemon, spicy alcohol. Not much too it save for some astringency and sticky/old hops. Ick.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz. bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks Dany!), pours a cloudy orange with a thick foamy white head. Aroma of resinous and citrus hops, peaches, mango, orange and grapefruit. Flavour is wonderfully citrus hop-heavy, with just enough caramel backing, subtle tropical fruits, finishing with a citrusy grapefruit note. An excellent by-the-books Imperial IPA.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pale amber gold beer with a thin white head. The aroma is lovely. Rich bright tropical citrus aroma. Light sweet honeyish aroma. A bit of light tropical mango and pineapple. It is very bright and fresh smelling. Flavour is soft and fruity. Fairly creamy texture with a rich fruity hoppiness. Moderate bitterness. Lovely and hoppy with a light moderate bitterness. Lovely beer.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Filtered. Clear honey orange. Citrus and candy sugar nose - sugared honey and sweet pine resin. Texture is lightly oil, body is medium to light. Overly sweet sugared hop oils dominate. Thankfully there’s little malt distraction but the overt sweetness is difficult to get past.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Craft fresh today. Pours hazy gold with huge 3-finger fluffy white head and copious lacing. Nose is wet hoppy, with pineapple, tangerine, some pale malt. Very citruc nose. Tastes wet hoppy, resiny, with a ton of tangerine, orange, pineapple, and mango flavors, in roughly that order. Smooth, very complex palate with finishing peppery notes to match the colossal hops and tropical fruit. Marvelous! Long Trail has become a brewer that I now seek out with these big brewmaster series beers. As a caveat, I don’t seek the regular stuff, just the brewmasters classic series! Get ya some, and do it now, punks!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUL 21, 2009 My Bottom Line:
This amiable Double IPA offers lots of citrusy and wooden hop aromatics which segue into a light alcohol heat and a gripping resinous bitterness, as honeyed malts smoothly lay the foundations for further gulps.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam sticks to the top of the hazy blond golden.
-The prickly bubbling leads to higher drinkability.
-I was prepared for a sipper, but this is very drinkable.
-The hop personality is striking and complex, delving into orangey, citrusy, coniferous, and sandy realms.
From bottles and from the tap at the brewery tasting room.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
2009-05-02. Golden orange amber body with a small white head. (3+) Interesting hoppy aroma has a leafy character and in interesting hoppy layer that seems new to me (different kind of hops perhaps?) but gets milder as it goes. (7+) Flavour is milder than expected. Pleasant hoppiness throughout, light bitterness. Hops are again a bit different from what I am used to and again make me wonder what kind were used. Mild base malt. Subtle, touches of citrus and very light resin. (7+) Average palate is smooth but feels a touch light for a double IPA. Quite pleasant, and an interesting twist but lacks the oomph I usually want from a double IPA. Bottle from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo. Shared by DuctTape.
