4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
glassware: Duvel tulip...occasion: watcing The Ten Commandments after the Easter vigil feast--and forty days without beer!...aroma: thick malty presence; not lactic, but a bit milky...appearance: dark black body with an imperially thick brown head; nice brown lacing...palate: active, aggressive presence; full-bodied, effervescent end...taste: slightly hoppy with a staunch malt backbone--a powerful punch...ovverall: "Robust?" Yup--although the alcohol slightly obscures the balance of the beer itself; intense and gripping, with a small physical price and a larger monetary bill--wish I could afford more of this!

Tap at Joe Squared (Inner Harbour), Baltimore - 22/05/12.
Dark dark brown approaching black with a thin brown head.
Dark malts on the nose, coffee, chocolate a little dark fruit and a touch of wood.
Taste as nose but worth noting that the alcohol is very well hidden.
Medium body, lightish carbonation.

Smells really malty, really roasty, really boozy. Crazy coffee, crazy sweetened, caramelized malt. Lots of booze. A lot better than anything else I had by Long Trail a couple months ago. On tap at Farmhouse Tap and Grill.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Chocolate, coffee, and pipe tobacco in the aroma. Flavor is sweet with chocolate and vanilla, almost like a melted ice cream sundae. Chocolate/coffee bitterness and some alcohol in the finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Outstanding.

Last bottle out of my cellar. CAn’t believe I hvaen’t reviewed this year. dark brown...pours black. 2 finger head subsides quick reminds me of coffee beans in colour. Smells of dried malts and prunes. Taste is pretty deep so hard to discern a lot. I get cereal, peanuts and dark chocolate. Slight level of earthiness and a finish that’s sweet and full of burnt chocolate and marshmallows. Very warming.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Oil black with dark tan head. Good retention. Smell is delicious. Alcohol and malt mainly, some espresso and lots of chocolate. Acidic and milky with some excellent bite and a very thin body for the style. The flavors combine and blend very well together. Doesn’t necessarily taste like a strong porter but oh well.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Originally reviewed: 4/13/10. Poured into a goblet. Pours a thick dark black with a moderate-sized tan head on top. Dissipates to a thin ring around the edge; leaves some spotty lace. The nose is somewhat underwhelming for this big beer. I’m getting some faint coffee, cocoa powder, and a wash of citrus hops on the end.
The body is creamy smooth. Spot-on for the style. As far as flavor goes, this one is not big and bold up front either. Definite roasted malts are present with some slight alcohol burn. The aftertaste is dark coffee which is excellent. Mild cocoa presence.
This isn’t the best Baltic I’ve ever had, but as I continued to drink this one, I liked it more and more. Not bad at all.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Robust aroma when opened and poured. Distinctive hints of coffee and chocolate and a full texture that speaks to the strong base built from Malts. LongTrail should be proud of this interpretation of the classic porter.
