3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle. Date of 2013-06-28. Tasted on 2014-10-25. Pours a cloudy copper with not much of an off-white head. Aroma is sweet - no pumpkin spice at all. Taste is sweet with a touch of spice. Finish is the same. I was expecting a little more from an imperial and from Long Trail. Itís not bad, but I thought it would be better.

2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap at the brewery: Pours dark amber with a thin tan head. Aroma of nutmeg, cinnamon, pumpkin, and toasted malt. Taste is really, really sweet with lots of spice and just a little bit of pumpkin. Typical of most imperial pumpkins, itís just sugar and spices. Medium body, disgustingly sweet, not very good.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
New Beer Distributors, NYC 650ml ($6.25): (as Brush & Barrel Imperial Pumpkin) -- Pours brown with a tan head. Aroma is a mix of pumpkin spice and nice English toffee infused malts. Taste is spicy in that normal pumpkin spice way, but the nice malty base beer here is the real winner. Nice aftertaste. Pumpkin isnít the only thing playing the game here.

4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Outstanding aroma that made me breath deep before sipping and raising my anticipation of the coming experience. Smooth, pleasant mouthfeel and a depth of complex flavors, skillfully balanced, that all played well together. Reminiscent of a Barley Wine but with spices and caramelized sugars. I'm not a huge fan of most pumpkin ales but, especially as an imperial, Long Trail does this style very well. Definitely worth cellaring several of these.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance Ė The beer is served a darker reddish orange color with a one finger foamy head. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a decent level of streaky lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell Ė The aroma is heaviest of a nice blend of lightly roasted pumpkin and spice of nutmeg, coriander and cinnamon. Along with these smells are a good showing of sweetness with aromas of caramel and brown sugar as well as a bit of a bready like aroma with some characteristics of a yeasty like smell.
Taste Ė The taste begins with a rather moderate showing of a biscuit malt taste as well as a decent amount of a pumpkin. Upfront there is a rather high level of sweetness from flavors of caramel and brown sugar. As the taste moves on, the pumpkin takes on a lightly roasted taste with the spices that were detected in the nose joining the taste profile. At the same time the sweetness lessens ever so lightly producing slightly drier (although by no means dry) taste which matches the increase in roastedness well. In the end a light alcohol taste comes to the tongue, leaving a warming spiced, still rather sweet, pumpkin flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel Ė The body of the beer is on the medium to slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is slightly below average. The thickness and slightly lower carbonation are quite nice for the style as it gives the beer a more creamy like feel complimenting very well the pumpkin flavors.
Overall Ė An overall quite enjoyable pumpkin brew. It had a good level of sweetness which was balanced by the pumpkin, spice, and light roasted flavors quite well. A good one to give a go to if you have the chance.
