THOUGHTS: Rather nice. Very nice for the price, too. Very smooth and easy to drink. Definitely a ramped up version of their regular pumpkin ale. Hid alcohol nicely. Not the best pumpkin beer, but a nice beer in general. It did get a little sweet toward the end and slightly cloying. Not just a pumpkin beer — it’s a real beer, too. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a kind of murky, dark, orangey red that was just about brown in the glass with nice carbonation and an average to large, creamy, off-white head that mostly diminished, but left excellent lacing. The aroma contained moderate grain and cereal; light caramel; hints of cocoa; light citrus hops; slight pine hops; brown sugar, pumpkin and pumpkin pie spices. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lighty acidic; while the finish was moderately sweet, lightly acidic and lightly bitter. There was caramel, grain, brown sugar, pumpkin, cereal, citrus hops, light pumpkin pie spices, hints of cocoa, more spices as it warmed, and some milk chocolate. The medium to full body was fairly creamy with tingly carbonation and a slightly alcoholic finish.

Pumpkin flavor was just not as strong as it could be. Big 22oz bottle. Nice aroma but overall flavor falls a little short.

Draft at Snallygaster 2013. Poured a deep amber with a beige head. Cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice, caramel, vanilla, and pumpkin dominated the aroma. Went down medium to full-bodied and smooth. The taste featured lots of caramel, vanilla, and creamy pumpkin pie loaded with all the usual spices. There was an overwhelming boozy quality in both taste and warmth from start to finish. Things got a bit too cloying by the end.

Poured from a bottle clear golden aroma of spices and tastes like a bitter pumpkin pie with cinnamon overtones

Pours cinnamon with a thin white head without leaving much lacing. The aroma is quite flavorful full of spice. The taste has decent complexity. It’s very spicy on the nose but the finish and the palate leave just a little bit to be desired. I see this appears to be a brand new beer. I’ve had a ton of pumpkins and I would say that this most closely resembles River Horse’s. Pretty good overall.

22oz bottle from The Perfect Pour. Happy Long Trail distributed this far south. Pours dark amber with white head. Malt aroma with cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. Caramel malt flavor with pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove flavors. Then some peppery notes in the finish with hops and some bitterness.

Notes from the Pike, Reading, PA, Oct 26 2013. Nice pumpkin, reasonably balanced for this style. Aroma of spice (nutmeg, cinnamon), just bitter enough. This drank really easy for the abv, I can see it sneaking up on you.

Poured this beer from a large bottle into a trumpet glass to drink. The beer had a rusty copper/dark-amber color with a good bit of sediment at the bottom, and an average-sized, tan head that had good lacing, but average retention and cling. The aroma featured a big blend of spices, including brown sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon, along with notes of pumpkin, caramel, and cloves to go with a light pine hops effect. It had a good, sweet taste with a somewhat bitter spice, paired with tones of pumpkin, nutmeg, and candy, and also had a slight sour effect. It had a thick mouthfeel, but gave way to a thinner finish which was a bit harsh; the beer had good life and carbonation and was quite dry.

Bottle at home. Aroma of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, blah, blah, blah, blah. Another standard pumpkin ale, just with a bit of hot alcohol on the finish. Not bad, but also nothing to set it apart from the other 20 pumpkin ales on the shelf right now.

UPDATED: AUG 13, 2012 Pours golden. The lacing sticks around but does ever so sink. Smells and tastes of rye bread, nutmeg, allspice and bread yeast. Alright.
