This dark chocolate Porter is a very rich, roasty beer with top notes of chocolate derived from freshly roasted cacao. Strong but relatively smooth on the palate, it’s malty sweetness is evenly balanced with bitterness, and a slight dryness from the alcoholic strength. Look for solid notes of coffee, licorice, mild chocolate and more subtle hints of fruit and spices.

Bottle. Pours black with a beige head that falls quickly to the edges and clings. Aroma is coffee, dark malt, a touch of smoke. Flavor is bitter chocolate, licorice, coffee. Bitter, overextracted coffee in the finish.

22oz bomber from Spirits Brick. Poured a good looking medium to thicker bodied mostly black body with a smaller thick foamy deep beige head. Aroma is nice, burnt marshmallow and vanilla, light chocolate, wet burnt toast, some dark fruit skins and light spice. Medium to slightly fuller bodied with slightly stronger carbonation, leaves a full mouthfeel with no hint of the high ABV, very smooth and drinkable. Flavor of dark malts, chocolate malted milk balls, toast, some darker berry and fruit skins, vanilla beans, hint of coffee and tea, touch of woodiness, some brownie batter. This is pretty darn good and damn 9.3% is scarily well hidden.

22oz bottle picked up at Whole Foods in DC. Dark brown pour with a slight tan head and a bit of lacing. Nose is roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. This is a massive porter - strong but deceptive. Flavorful but balanced. Quite nice.

From the 22 fl. oz. bottle. The pour is dark brown to near black with am long lasting delicate tan head. Opaque with good lacing. Aroma of cooked chocolate, coffee, brown sugar, and dark malts with hops de-emphasized. The body is medium and creamy. The taste is dreamy. A good dose of chocolate malts, coffee, and licorice up front with the slightest dry hop presence at the end. Alcohol is very well integrated. 9.3%? You’d never know it.

On tap at Long Trail. Really dark brown with slight amber tint and coffee colored head. Aromas of coffee and chocolate and smokiness. Roasted malt flavors with charred smokiness. Black coffee and dark chocolate flavors. Some piney hippiness in finish. Silky feel in mouth.

On draft, rich and creamy. Really robust and a little boozy. I have always liked the long trail series beers
