This dark chocolate Porter is a very rich, roasty beer with top notes of chocolate derived from freshly roasted cacao. Strong but relatively smooth on the palate, itís malty sweetness is evenly balanced with bitterness, and a slight dryness from the alcoholic strength. Look for solid notes of coffee, licorice, mild chocolate and more subtle hints of fruit and spices.

So a strong ale w/cacoa nibs. Dark brown and a bit of haze. Sweet chocolatey character, with a touch of nuttiness. Quite sweet, a touch sticky and then this really strong boozy/barrelly element comes into it. Big rich boozy finish...this is a finisher, and the big bottle for something like this is borderline insane. All told the balance isnít that great with all the alcohol.

With this beerís name, I thought it would be appropriate to try this beer after entering a 200+ beer backlog. Bomber from Beer Run. Pours a very dark brown color with a thin frothy brown head. Fair head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, earth and a bit of green coffee notes. The taste is roasted malts, dark coffee, dark chocolate, mild earth, mild bitter hops, very faint vanilla and a bit of fruitiness. Medium bodied, low carbonation, slight lingering bitterness. Good beer.

Bomber. Dark and rich looking with a nice tan head. Cocoa and earth in the aroma. Flavor is dry bakers chocolate and the bitterness that goes along with that. But this is a sweet beer. Huge rich malts dominate. Alcohol is tasted and felt. This is good stuff.

kramer (5360) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 9, 2014
Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown, almost black, body under a one finger tight bubbled fizzy light brown head. The nose is rather thick and intense with a lot of licorice, some burnt caramel, roast, minimal cocoa, and a touch of light alcohol. The flavor is a bit too heavy on the burnt caramel, it comes across as a bit acrid on the finish after the caramel fades. The licorice is a little muted because of the burnt character. A bit of alcohol warmth on the finish. Medium bodied with minimal carbonation and some lingering burnt caramel. Not the biggest fan of this one.
