12 oz bottle from Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh. This was just OK, not great but a valiant effort on the part of Long Trail. Worth a purchase and a taste.

Pours true to name: brown with an off white head that leaves lacing. Nose is roasted malt. Body is medium. Taste is roasted malt with light bitterness in the aftertaste. 12 oz bottle in a 121 pack at a great price

(Rating #6507)

Pour from a 12oz bottle. Clear cola colored ale with small tan head. Aroma of light caramel, toast, metal and hints of nuts. Taste is weakly sweet up front transitioning to a toasted / nutty finish, ends with a wet burnt toast taste. Thin palate.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From 12 oz bottle. About $1.07 for single bottle at Trader Joes, poured into pilsner glass
Aroma: That brown ale smell, caramel, bread
Appearance: brown, clear, minimal head, white foam,
Taste: heavy cloying sweetness, lightly bitter,
Palate: medium body, creamy, soft carbonation, long finish,
Overall: Not a bad brown ale. Tastes exactly what I’d consider a standard brown ale and matches what a brown ale should taste like. Good body and "brown ale" aroma and taste. Nothing remarkable - it’s a brown ale - but it’s a very solid brown ale, if that’s your thing.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Ehh....not what I would expect from Long Trail. I'm basing this on the fact that it's supposed to be an ale but it's a brown ale for sure. As a brown ale....it's ok, but as an ale, not so much. If in a weak brown ale mood, this will cut the mustard, otherwise...not so much.

12oz bottle, from my local Kroger. Was curious what a "barn ale" was going to be when I picked this up, I had no idea. Figured maybe it was similar to a farmhouse ale. Turns out it’s just a mispelling of "brown ale". Nice chocolate, toasty flavors up front. Mild spiciness. Good earthy hop. Pretty damn tasty and flavorful for the low ABV, actually. Clear red / brown color. Thin off-white / khaki head, leaving good reaches of lace. Lighter to medium body. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter to moderate carbonation, with a mild chewiness. Very mild slick, but more dry finish. Bright and refreshing. Moderate to bigger bitter taste, light sweet. This is a great, balanced, sessionable brown ale (excuse me, barn ale). Great to enjoy with my sandwich.

Draft at Il Forno in Frederick, MD served in a pint glass. Clear ambery, dark brown color with tan head. Aroma notes of roasted malt, caramel, nuttiness, some maple and tad spices. Taste adds some faint coffee, more roast and tad more maple. Light body, low-moderate carbonation, creamy, sticky with sweet roast finish. Nice enough lighter brown ale with some maple influence.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear dark amber brown color, good one finger tan head, lots of lace strips. Aroma of malt, hay, and wood, much like a good smelling barn. Taste is malt that turns heavier as it moves through a medium carbonated swallow, adding wood, nut, and maybe a little maple syrup. The finish is notably short of hops, as one might expect from this type of brew, and the finish is short. I’ve had better Long Trail examples.
