UPDATED: JAN 29, 2004 Re-rate 8/23/02: Stale malty aroma (this is a new bottle), weak malty taste, ends watery and with little fanfare. -0.7 from last time. 9/15/01 Very light tasting. I wish there was more bite to it.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MartinT (6350) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 7, 2002
Pleasant caramel and roasted malt…Elegant flowers and spices…A bit too quiet though…
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Oakes (10202) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 10, 2001
Amber ale with a caramelly accent. I have to say, after Double Bag, I really don’t want these guys to shoot for ’smooth’.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Gusler (2654) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - OCT 11, 2001
Minimal head, some lace and a nice dark color, clear with a clean nose that hints of the malt, the top light and fresh. There is after setting/resting for a few minutes, a decent hop bite that starts a bit sweet.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - OCT 4, 2001
First off ’Do Not Drink Cold’. Cold this brew is crisp and dry with minimal flavors but hops. Warm this brew is a divine meld of nutty flavors with some toffee as well. Was a little creamier and sugary once warmer. A very nice seasonal.
3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Sammys (428) - Portland, Maine, USA - SEP 14, 2001
I was expecting somewhat of an Oktoberfest, but the malt was certainly not up to par for that style. In any case, this isn’t advertised as a fest, so that can certainly be forgiven. The somewhat dark color surprises the drinker with its pronounced smoothness and lack of any outstanding maltines s or hoppiness. I can see this being a ’bridge’ beer for some people.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 canary dog (525) - Rutland, Vermont, USA - AUG 30, 2001
Very little aroma. Copper body, low head. Feels light, but almost silky in the mouth. As advertised, it has a very smooth, uncomplicated finish. Malts are there, along with hops, but they are unusually non-intrusive. A dark colored, light bodied beer. Perfect for getting you primed for the heavy winter ales to come.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Kaya161 (1128) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 5, 2000
The label says that this beer is brewed with all the malt and hop varities that go into their other beers. What results is a slightly dark, slightly malt balanced, and incredibly smooth ale.
