COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Real India Pale Ale (IPA), as it was first brewed in the days of the British Empire, was not the carefully filtered brew that we call IPA beer today. The first IPAs were unfiltered and featured extra hops and higher strength as a preservative for the long trip from England to the colony of India. Our Traditional IPA ale is naturally carbonated, dry-hopped & unfiltered like the old days.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orange body with a small fizzy white head. The nose is not all that great for an IPA, very mildly hoppy with a bit of a soapy undertone and some pale doughy malt. The flavor is OK, but still pretty tame for something declared an IPA. Just light floral hops and a light maltiness. Finishes fairly short with minimal bitterness. Light to medium bodied with soft fizzy carbonation. A rather understated example of the style. Doesn’t really measure up with American or English style.

Just ok......especially as a summer ipa. Decent bitterness, but one could definitely wish for more. Has an interesting fruity balance to it.......fermented with english ale yeast maybe?

Tap @ Bricco’s. Light hazy golden color with a small white head. The nose is dried grass, flowers, some grass. The taste is mildly bitter green shoots, some shortbread and more herbal grassy notes. Medium body, bracing carbonation. Overall, OK.

Pours golden with a white head. Aromas of flowers, some citrus. No piney hops present. Taste is mildly bitter, well balanced, dry finish. Why is this beer shit on so badly in the ratings? This is a very under appreciated and underrated beer. I like this.

Amber/ yellow. Decent hop nose. Decent malt body with a touch bitter on the tongue, finish dry, but not too lasting.

Average IPA. Orange and lemon in the aroma as well as a bit of grass. A bit watery and not much depth coming from the malts.

Bottle. Source not noted! Pours hazy golden amber with a slight white head. Aromas of light stone fruit and citrus hop. Med body or better. Flavor is lightly malty and quite fruity/citrus hoppy. Finishes nicely bitter. Not NW, but bitter. Pretty good brew. Probably in the top 33% of IPAs.

$1.60 bottle from Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours golden with half-inch of white head. Lagery aroma, grasses, copper, tin. Tastes of bitter grasses, a hint of lemon, light copper, and malts... horrid skunky aftertaste. Too lagery - no imagination or appreciation of the style.
