3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft. Amber color with light head. Aroma is very malty with traces of pine and plenty of caramel.
Flavor is malt heavy. Caramel, sweet bread, yeast and light pine resin in the finish. Perhaps big DIPA’s have distorted my palate because the hops here seem subdued and mild. The body and carbonation are mild with a syrupy, sticky texture. Not overly sweet but sweet never the less. A solid, average IPA. Could be used as a nice dinner brew.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Hazy orange hue with a sticky, rollicking head of off-white foam. Fairly vague aroma here, but the first sip reveals a very hop-forward character, as you’d expect. Citric, acidic, tart. (#5456, 3/13/2014)

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Amber to near copper pour with a shirt white head. Lots of floral and citrusy hops up front with tropical fruit notes, caramel, sweet malt and light pine intermingled in the background. Taste is big floral hops, tropical fruit, citrus, light pine, sweet malt, and chewy caramel. Some toasted malt in there as well. Body is medium and slightly chewy with a moderate, bubbly carbonation and lingering hop bitterness. Light resinous feel as well. Ends with more caramel, tropical fruit, citrus oils, pine, floral hops, and toasted malt.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle to glass. Pours a slightly hazy deep golden light amber color with a thin off-white head. Aroma is mildly sweet, with lots of fleshy fruit hops. Pears, apricot. Flavor is a good mix of mild bitter and sweet, with some light malts and a moderate amount of fruit hops. Lighter in body with a lingering sweetness. Very drinkable. Pretty solid for Long Trail.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a semi-hazy orange color. The head is two fingers high, with a shade that’s just off-white. Retaining itself acceptably, it has a rocky texture and leaves goodly lacing behind.
S: Citrus, and lots of it. Predominantly grapefruit, with a side of orange and just a suggestion of tropical fruit. There’s also a fair bit of sweet caramel malt, but it seems to be very well integrated with the hop character - creating an illusion of orange juice. Very promising aroma.
T: It’s slightly maltier than the aroma suggested, but still nothing that can be called a sweet mess. The hops are clustered on the front of the palate - bringing their citrusy goodness - while the finish brings forth an almost nutty tone. Some herbal, peppery bitterness (and, later, melon) augments the beer post-swallow. It’s not intrinsically BALANCED per se, but the hop/malt combination is a unique combination that doesn’t clash in any manner.
M: Crisp like an IPA should be. There’s a bit too much body for my tastes, though. Luckily, this goes down easily thanks to its semi-bitter finish, healthy carbonation, and slightly coarse texture.
O: This one is really delicious. It’s prolific malt backbone actually helps it instead of detracting. Though I tend to prefer leaner, less malty IPAs, there’s more than enough here to warrant another 6 pack purchase.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle dated 2/3/14 making this about three weeks old now! Pour has a golden amber color with a thick one finger head that retained very well. Aroma has citrus, tropical fruit, grapefruit, pines, and sweet malt. Mouth feel is medium with good coating and medium low carbonation. Flavor again is hop forward, totally California style, resins, citrus, grapefruit, sweet underlying malt, mild hop bitterness, and a smooth finish. This is so drinkable with no alcohol at all like a session beer but 7.6%.... These guys have totally joined the times!!!!!
