Description: Long Trail is excited to launch Long Trail Pumpkin Ale, a slightly sweet seasonal treat artfully brewed with pumpkins, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. The perfect drink for a fall day, this exceptionally balanced beer has an aroma very reminiscent of pumpkin pie.

Style History: During colonial times malted barley would be in short supply so the colonial brewers would use a wide assortment of whatever organic ingredient was handy. Pumpkin was in abundance so it was one of the most common of the random ingredients.

Food Pairing: Roasted chicken, lamb, turkey and stews
Glassware: Pint glass, Nonic or a mug
Serving Temperature: 45-50 degrees F*

(Bottle). Light pumpkin and biscuit aroma. Earthy orange complexion with minimal head. The flavor is pleasantly pumpkin flavored without over spicing. Well done for the style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the brewery: Pours medium amber with a thin white head and slight lacing. Aroma is pumpkin, light nutmeg, clove. Taste, unlike most pumpkin beers, is heavy on the pumpkin and not on the spices. It wasn’t a complete nutmeg bomb and that gets bonus points in my book. Light to medium body, nice beer.

My first pumpkin beer. I really enjoyed this. A good bitter ale with a hint of pumpkin. Not sweet nor too spicy. Good stuff.

Draft at Dalton’s. Aroma is pure cinnamon. Typical pumpkin ale flavors. Dry finish. Most of them are the same.

Bottle at home. Aroma is heavy pumpkin, nutmeg and cinnamon with toast and nutty malt with earthy hops. Pours clear amber with a large, frothy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Flavor is toast malt, pumpkin, nutmeg, light earthy hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Solid pumpkin! Avg pour, aroma, & taste. It’s clean & crisp but nothing particularly special here!

12oz bottle from Xroads. This is a big disappointment. Water down flavor, watery body. Aroma isn’t even that great and that’s the best part of this beer. Aroma of gingerbread, nutmeg, cinnamon some vomit and sawdust underneath. Blah this is a drainpour.

Transfer from BA review on 9-28-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours an orange-copper color with a small white fizzy head. The head fades quite quickly leaving only a trace level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is very pleasant overall. It has a nice roasted pumpkin smell mixed with a little bit of brown sugar and caramel sweetness. Other aromas of some cinnamon and a decent amount of nutmeg are there as well, giving the aroma a nice, semi-dry, pumpkin pie aroma overall. Taste – The taste begins with a decent caramel and brown sugar sweetness as well as some pumpkin and bready flavors. As the flavor advances the sweetness fades with the overall taste growing slightly drier. Along with the sweetness fading some, the pumpkin flavors grow more intense and take on more notes of a roasted nature. The spice flavors also come to the tongue at this time, with a decent showing of nutmeg and allspice and a little bit of cinnamon as well. In the end, some of the sweeter flavors that were lost come back and grow a bit more intense, with all the flavor transitions throughout the taste, leaving a nice roasted and moderately sweetened spiced pumpkin flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the medium to slightly lower side. Overall the medium thickness and carbonation are rather nice of the style as it makes for a rather nice balance between drinkability as well as still maintaining enough of a thickness to support the more spiced pumpkin flavors of the brew. Overall – A rather sweet but enjoyable pumpkin ale with a nice blend of roasted pumpkin and spice. Overall rather easy drinking and tasty.
