3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JAN 6, 2013 Bottle into a goblet. Pour is a very dark brown with next to no head. Aroma is that a fruity wine with rich malt over tones. Taste is a very rich malt with wine like rolls. Finish is a nice warm wash of malt. A very good ale, one of the best.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft @ The Reservoir, Waterbury, VT. Dark mahogany color, thin ring of head. Aroma of syrupy caramel, very slight booze with some fig juice. After sipping the glass for a good 10 minutes, it wasnít really working for me. Texture is very syrupy with the same flavors as the aroma. Alcohol shows up a bit too much. I guess if you like big malty beers, you may like this. Perhaps a few bottles to cellar to mellow out the ABV would make this much improved. I wouldnít recommend on draft. The Double Bag is a better drink.

2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20
Poured into snifter a muddy copper brown with zero head formation. Rich aromas of sweet malts, molasses, caramel, and alcohol...similar to barleywine. Flavors are different however with toasted malts, followed by bitter hops and finishes sour with a lasting off putting aftertaste. Not very complex on the notes. Little carbonation and a medium body. Aftertaste still unpleasant. Aromas are inviting, but this beer wasn't very enjoyable.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
New Beer Distributors, NY 330lml ($3): Pours a reddish brown with a small head that leaves no lacing. I havenít had double bag in quite a long time, so I canít compare the two. Aroma is dried fruit, malts, and some sugar... not really hops. Taste is lightly bitter, with plenty of astringency. Rather sweet and leaves a sticky taste in my mouth for quite a while. Not really my thing, but ok.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours dark brown with little to no head. Smells sweet, tastes of caramel and has a creamy almost milky feel to it. Some hops at the end come in to mask the high alcohol content. At 9%, it's not he type of beer to have every day, but it is worth a try. Unique

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a somewhat hazy dark brown/amber color with lots of particles floating around. Aroma is difficult to describe because it is different than anything I can remember having. There is definitely the presence of sweet malt but there is something else there. I think it is bread but something I have never smelled before. Taste is sweet with no noticeable hops and there is another oddity just like with the aroma. I guess it reminds me almost of a banana flavor with some sourness. I am struggling to better describe it. The body is rather light considering the high abv. Despite many reviews noting the high alcohol presence I think it is hidden rather well but that may be due to the fact I have had a few high alcohol beers prior to this one. Overall this is a very unique beer, with notes and tastes I donít remember experiencing before, but I think having this once was enough.

2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Caramel, sticky nose with alcohol and nice port and barleywine notes, very fruity with reduced brown sugar, resembles something of a sweet and really sticky Altbier, and a huge one at that, but with additional estery overtones. Heavily cloudy opaque brown with no real head. Taste is very sweet with medium bitterness, alcohol popping right out. Caramel maltiness has some nice rounded earth and a little chocolate but really ends up quite muddled and indistinct, and the interesting fruity /jammy notes are more like spectators here. Warms the chest but doesnít burn, and I think I like it more when itís colder. Full body, a little yeast slime, hard to control these big American ales, isnít it?

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a muddy thick viscous deep mahogany color with a little skim of eggshell foam around the edges.... Aromas are light but boozy...sweet caramel, date, a lil woodsy. On the palate its got alot of malty caramel, slight sticky sweetness and more of woodsy notes in the finish.
