4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 adamjackson (279) - Canaan, New Hampshire, USA - JAN 31, 2012
"Had this at Long Trail Brewery on Tap. Poured into a pint glass.
I bought two 4-packs to take home, one to drink and another to cellar.
A - Arrived at the table with a finger of haze-like head. Quiet a bit of sediment floating around and a brown / amber color. Think haze like amber color.
S - brown sugar and maltiness for sure are all over this beer. Some earthy dry fruits like raisins are here as well.
T - Lots of alcohol taste, figs and a slight bit of belgian breadiness to it. The alcohol is really strong in this one and maybe a bit of chocolate or caramel flavoring
M - MMM. This is a heavy beer but it’s a light carbonation when I swish around a bit. It stays around for a while which is great because the taste is fantastic
O - I had this fresh, the week it was released so my feeling might be different than yours but this is a fantastic beer. I’m glad 2 packs are sitting in my cellar right now ready to be consumed. It’s a great warming beer for winter time."
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 CJfromPhilly (129) - Aston, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 20, 2011
Pours from the 12 oz. bottle a coppery brown with a creamy one finger head that quickly dissolves into a medium lacing. Carbonation is light. Aroma is heavy with sweetness ( apples, peaches, strawberries, honey). 1st sip brings all that sweet aroma to the tongue in a very pleasant, non-cloying way. Mouthfeel is silky and creamy, and there is a hint of alcohol on the swallow, but it’s very subtle. This goes down a little too smoothly for a 9.25% abv ale! Overall, this is a very good strong ale...one i’d love to see go from limited release to Long Trail’s regular lineup!

Smells and tastes like caramel and bubblegum. Pours brown. Overall a very interesting American strong ale.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 cakanator (447) - South Hadley, Massachusetts, USA - OCT 29, 2011
On tap at LT, although recently tried in bottle as well. Nice darker brown hue off white head. Tons of malts in the nose, some caramel, and boozy. Palate is actually balanced for 9.2, light hops in the finish, but malty and delicious through the entry to mid and a bitter boozy finish. Does it taste like 9.2? No, and for that it gets a good score.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 pete4999 (681) - Buffalo, New York, USA - NOV 9, 2011
On tap at Colter Bay in Buffalo, NY. I’ve been waiting to try this one for awhile but haven’t seen it anywhere. Poured a dark brown with a nice frothy head. Filled with malty caramel sweetness and tons of spice. I like the Double Bag a lot, and I think this was even better. I really liked this, and I’m surprised that the ratings are so low overall.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Nattyicerulz (8) - USA - DEC 20, 2011 does not count
Pretty solid for a strong ale. It has the taste very reminiscent of the double bastard. Strong malt takeover with little hops, blows the double bag away. Alcohol is in the palate and the nose, great sipping beer. Really enjoyed this one

Bottle at Capital Ale House. Pours a slightly hazy dark amber with a tiny tan head. Aroma is strong, lots of dark malts, dark fruits and some hops. Lots of dark roasted malts and alcohol.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Cletus (6064) - Connecticut, USA - JAN 10, 2009
Pours ruby red with a thin pinkish head. Smells of sweet malt, some rosey hints. Tastes very malt forward with a lot of sweetness (in a good way). Basically an amped up version of the double bag.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 FROTHINGSLOSH (3388) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 19, 2012
Sampled on draft at the Headkeeper this beer poured a hazy dark brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head that lingered forever and left incredible lacing. The aroma was quite Belgian and reminded me of the dark beers from St Bernardus - notes of bread, caramel, tea and fig. The flavor was intensely boozy with a tangy sour caramel presence and notes of fig, raisin, molasses and tea. The finish was long with prominent alcohol that really detracted. Moderately full bodied. Interesting.
