Bottle. Mahogany with off-white head. Aromas of toffee, oak, dark fruit, caramel, tropical fruit, roasted nut. Flavors of toffee, caramel, tropical fruit, dark fruit, roasted nuts, tobacco. Slightly sweet finish with alcohol presence. Full body with slick mouthfeel and low carbonation. The step between Double Bag and LT Ale seems more relative than the step between Double Bag and Triple bag. Still a good sipper.

(bottle). Better described as a Double or Imperial Altbier, than an American Strong Ale by RB. The flavor is well malted and German in style. Taste has more alcohol than the double bag. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Tap and Mallet. Pours a reddish copper color with a small off-white head. Aroma was malty with caramel, toffee, a hint of banana and some fruitiness. Sweet, smooth and crisp flavor of caramel, brown sugar, fruit, light banana and toffee. Plenty O Malt.

bhensonb (7598) - Woodland, California, USA - MAY 11, 2012
Bottle from Half Time. Pours hazy dark ruddy copper with a slight beige head. Aroma is lightly fruit - almost light cola. Full bodied. Flavor is very malt, not very hop. It is fresh. It’s fruity bubble gum. Not in a bad way. Bears a slight resemblance to cola. Finishes dusty, fruity bubble gum and fairly towards dry. Surprising for all the malt. This is a pretty good sipping beer. Hop is hard to differentiate, but I think that’s what separates this from barley wine. Damn tasty beer.

BlackIPA (331) - Rochester, New York, USA - APR 28, 2012
Pours a very deep amber with a thin head that fades quickly. Aroma is bready, caramel, dark fruit. First sip reveals fruit cake, toffee, heavy malt. Thin mouthfeel. Decent but not great.

Bottle: Pours a cloudy dark orange with a thin white head, aroma has brown sugar and molasses, starts and ends sweet with a malty ending, syrupy mouthfeel, mellow carbonation. A bit sweet for my liking.

Bottle. Cloudy copper, decent head. Full body, thick, sweet malty aroma. Strong and alcohol can be detected but is not overwhelming. Pretty good for this type.

Draft. Pours translucent brown with half a finger of head. Aroma is very malty with some caramel sweetness. Taste is loaded with caramel and sugar sweetness from the booze. Pretty good.

Pours a four finger khaki head that fades slowly to thin layer leaving some lace. Hazy amber color. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Malty caramel nose, flavor is similar, malty caramel with hops balancing. Expecting more flavor, more body than the Double Bag. $11.95 for a 4-pak of 12oz bottles from Bert’s Better Beers Hooksett, NH.

Aroma of bubble gum, dates and slight floral. Pours red with a small but dense head. Taste is confusing and sweet. Iced tea, caramel, and floral. Intense but not super tasty.
