Commercial Description:
his reddish brown ale is known for its nutty sweetness and enticing aroma. Similar to New Castle Brown Ale, our Brown is patterned from the Northern New England brown ales and has a slightly lower alcohol content (approximately ABV: 4.8%) than our other brews. Our Nut Brown Ale received the bronze medal in the English-Style Brown Ale category at 2004 The Great American Beer Festival.

Nice brown color. Thick brown head. Malty and hoppy. Pretty good. Lots of nutty flavors. Enjoyable.

Pours a clear light carmel color. Malty fruity aroma. Malty and camelly flavor with a hint of hops. Sweet and drinkable.

I was fairly impressed by this. Malt and hops were good and definitely some nut flavors floating around.

Preface: This is not my favorite beer style. Review: An American Nut Brown that stands up well to its British counterparts. Really has that fruity-aleness that I guess drinkers find attractive about a nut brown as a darker beer style. A brilliant example of the beautiful brown but not red color that is the trademark of the style.

On tap at the brew pub. Pours a translucent amber with golden highlights…not brown and it had small bubbly lightly off white head. Aroma of light nuts, some toasted malts, caramel and citrus. Aroma on the light side. Flavor of lightly toasted malts, some nuts, citrus, hop flavor and light hop bitterness. Not sure how this won GABF in 2004 and 2005 in the brown ale category…doesn’t seem to fit the style exactly.
