A unique American Lager, almost black with a nice mahogany head, the large dose of wheat gives Longbeard body but allows it a light taste. The dark roasted malt gives way to a slight wooden note and makes this dark beer almost drink light. Designed for the between season when winter gives way to spring.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Cellars Wine & Sprits in Shorewood, MN. Pours an opaque dark brownish amber with a fast dissipating beige head that leaves behind some spotty lacing and an off-white ring. Aroma of dark chocolate, a hint of toffee, some light pumpernickel, and a touch of swiss cheese. Taste is medium bodied, with some toasted dark malt, a hint of chocolate malt, floral hops and some caramel. Finishes is quite balanced and tastes like a light porter with minimal bitterness and a slowly disappearing chocolate malt aftertaste. More of an American dark lager than a wheat ale.

Bottle. Very dark pour, fairly thick looking. Beige head. Sweet caramel, a touch of rye, a bit of fig. Not really sure what they were targeting with this one - bottle says winter wheat, style says dark lager, and it plays more like a sweet porter. But not bad.

This is surprisingly solid for the $.99 I paid for the bottle. Black, and low carbonation. Light lager yeast aroma with grain. Flavor has raisin, wood, and sweet malt with figs. Very much a winter beer, and not bad at all. Finish of roasted malt.

Had this beer and took a bottle out to Pittsburgh for some freinds to try. They loved it, so do I. Itís a seasonal brew, hard to find. If you are able to get your hands on this beer, you have to try it! Almost black in color with a nice mahogany head. Being a wheat beer didnít exspect so much complex flavors. The dark roasted malt and caramel flavors gives way to a slight wooden note and makes this dark beer almost drink like a lighter beer. Itís too bad itís not a all year round brew.

Pours a deep chocolatey brown. Decent eggshell head. Aroma is sweat and roasty, very malty. Flavor much the same with a surprising amount of complexity. I like.
