3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lagerboy (705) - British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 4, 2013
Bomber, repackaged as ’The Big One’ IPA 6.5% ABV.
Opaque brown orange, foamy off-white head settles and fades. Piney fruity citrus hop aroma. Moderate citrus pine bitter hop taste dominates, lightly resinous, some grapefruit. Mild caramel malts emerge as it warms. Average carbonation, light-medium body, medium hopped. Softens towards the finish, a lighter version of a PNWIPA, but still NFL (Not For Lagerboys)
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 RumRunner101 (412) - Alberta, CANADA - FEB 23, 2013
Good beer, but not really what I really how I like my IPAs. Good bready malt backing with a decent amount of hop flavour. Nothing is really prominent, it all blends together quite nicely. Pour is a murky amber.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 toddomundo (9) - Alberta, CANADA - DEC 27, 2012 does not count
Bottle 650ml ex liquor store. Definitely a different north west IPA - bitterness is there without much flavour to support. A bit too bitter to be honest and not really worth it as the hops don’t come through and the malt is non-existent.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 turboespresso (256) - Port Moody, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 19, 2012
Bottle. I rate this one on overall impression here. It’s more of an English-style IPA. In that regard it is a successful effort. In local terms, it would be more of an ESB. Anyway, this is a fairly well-executed IPA-lite.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 LarryBeast (278) - - JUL 24, 2012
Draft sampled during HOPoxia 2012. Golden amber, white head. Citrus hop tang with earthy, meatiness to the malt. Somewhat sweet and zesty; well-balanced. Medium-bodied, easy on the carbonation, slick with a dull bitter finish. Mellower than its North West fellows at HOPoxia, this was described to me as an "English stlye" IPA by the dude behind the bar.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 WheatKing (744) - Oak Bay, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 22, 2012
With "Port Alberni hops". Not much head, light amber. Pineapple aroma, tangerine flavour. Definitely a NW IPA, in the light vein. Reminds me of Tropicana brand juice.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Gerbeer (893) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 15, 2012
On tap. Pours a clear yellow with a light head. Aromas of citrus and pine. Flavors of grapefruit, malt, and cedar resin. Light bitter finish. Very nice
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 fiulijn (12360) - Malmö, DENMARK - AUG 24, 2011
Draught at the brewpub Light amber color, creamy head. Aroma of caramel and citrusy hops, hint of lemon cake. Lean body, with a mild caramel and toffee flavor, and a quite good hopping, carrying delicate resins, lemon zest, and a touch of lemongrass. Quite strong bitterness. Good.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Beershine (5174) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - MAR 24, 2010
Bottle, hand pour? Special procurement. Orange with slight haze. Aroma of buttered pancakes. Buttery. Hops barely detected. Some slickness in palate. Nutty flavors, burnt toast. Roasted dandelion redeems and the flavors aren’t so bad after all.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 mcberko (4147) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 25, 2010
On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a hazy golden. Aroma of hops, grass, pine and citrus. Flavour is fruity hops, kind of peppery, with an overall smooth palate. Not bad.
