COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made using a combination of high alpha whole British hops like Target & Northern Brewer for bitterness and balanced against roasted chocolate and black barley malts. A rich, complex beer that is still quaffable.

Light slightly burnt nose. Nice dark colour but very light airy head. Flavour burnt with a sour sharpness that puts off other flavours. Finishes with lingering sour and bitterness. Not a fan.

Bittersweet chocolate dominates this brew. Pours almost pitch black and has a dry chalky cocoa quality throughout.

Good for what it is, this style of stout is still a wee bit heavy for me. Nonetheless, Stoutnik is a great entry level beer for those interested in exploring the foreboding russian imperial stout style. Black as an endless abyss, minimal dark tan head. Aroma is sweetish with some milk chocolate, coffee and licorice scents thrown in. Taste is surprisingly gentle for this kind of stout; neither oily nor overly-molasses flavored, nor with the hop punch of Old Rasputin or Narwhal. Predominant milk chocolate and roasted barley flavor, with a licorice bite afterwards. If you’re new to this style, give this one a whirl and then go on to deeper and darker things. If you’re local, the best way I could describe this is think Dark Matter x 2. Decent and forgiving for the russian style of stout.

Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is cola, sugar, roasted malts. Medium-light bodied, bittersweet on the palate, slightly roasty finish. Flavours are roasted malts, mild liquorice, cola. Not a fan of this one.

Dark brown, sweet with earthy dark sugars, balanced hoppiness and an earthy finish. Good rich porter brew.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma brings out light roasted malt upfront, and some bready notes. Flavour is pretty restrained, with notes of light toasted malt and very mellow cocoa notes. Light-bodied, but at least no off-notes. It’s okay, but leaves a lot to be desired.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Black color with creamy brownish head. Light aroma of roasted malt. Smooth mouthfeel; the body is lean, not much residual sugars; roasted malt flavor, balanced, not burnt or ashy, with a light milky touch; correct bitterness.
Not exciting but quite good; not exactly imperial, more like a "1˝ Stout".

Dark brown color. Smells like an ashtray, dark chocolate but harsh and not good. Sour ashtray shit. Blah. Totally crap.

Bottle - Dark roast coffee and roast malts. Jet black with a thin beige head. Sour and bad. This didn't survive well.

Bottle share taster. Dark brown, light tan cap. Aroma of chocolate, nut, molasses. Taste is slightly sour, while a subtle bitterness. Thin, and forgettable.
