On tap at Lord Nelson, pours a hazy dark mahogany with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out toasted malt, bready caramel malt, and toffee. Flavour is quite malty, with notes of toffee, bready malt and bready caramel. Light-bodied despite beige malty-heavy. Solid.

The first impression is of lots of chocolate malt. Wee bit too sweet. This one is quite similar to Old Peculiar, but lacks some complexity.

Dark nutty brown with tan head and good lacing. Beer was served a little too cold, so light aroma with caramel and chocolate scents. Flavours also muted due to temperature. Still managed chocolate and coffee, with a long and bitter finish. Felt it was highly carbonated which may have been influenced by the coldness - but either way it reduced the flavour.

330ml bottle into glass. Dark caramel toffee nose. Ruby red beer with billowing cream coloured head. No apparent carbonation. Lightly fizzy on the tongue, medium body. Initial fruity (watermelon?) finish followed by lasting toasted malts. A touch of alcohol right at the end. Not bad.

Bottle. Clear copper/brown. Frothy light brown head that sticks attractively to the glass. Quite complex aromas as the beer progresses through various temperatures of toasty caramel, cola, chocolate, rum and grandmas fruitcake. Cola and rum flavours at the front of the palate lead into chocolate and coffee, with a long, bitter, toasted finish. The whole beer is let down by over carbonation.

From the Lord Nelson taps. Pours black. Great aroma of coffee, burnt toast. Bit of dried fruit. Wonderful on palate. Sense of rum on the tongue. Pleasant finish without bitterness. Not quite a stout but quality beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Amber, slightly hazy and the aroma is a bit caramelly with a hint if bubblegum. Med caramel, sweet, with a little bit of earthiness.
