awaisanen (1132), Irvine, California, USA Apr 4, 2008 On tap at the PP Belgian Fest. Pours a slightly hazy, ruddy caramel color with a slender finger of tan
foamy head. Aroma of sour cherry skins, mild grapeskin brett, toffee malt, and soft vanilla. Distinct cuvee-like
nose, but more similar in cherry intensity to Veritas 001. The cherry aromas really bring everything together
nicely, creating a moderate acidic brightness to compliment the more mellow toffee-caramel malt aromas. Medium
bodied, softly carbonated mouthfeel with a moderately dry finish. Flavors of tart cherries and leather up front
on the palate, followed up immediately by some chewy toffee and nutty almond malt flavors. Hints of oaky vanilla,
white pepper spice, and tart cherry skins linger in the finish. The cherry flavors are balanced well with the
malts, but the cuvee-esque cherry flavors are also by far my favorite aspect of the beer, making me wish I was
simply drinking a cuvee instead. I’m getting the feeling that cuvee isn’t really a beer that plays well with
others; it’s too distinct to play well with others. That said, if my palate wasn’t already "tainted" by cuvee,
this would be a marvelous blend.
AmEricanbrew (907), Left Coast, Louisiana, USA Jun 10, 2008 Deep garnet color with no head. Nice sour aromas of pickled cherries, red vinegar with a caramel sweetness. Medium body. Good tart cherry flavor with some wood and a caramel/toffee flavor to balance. This tastes like a mild version of the Cuvee De Tomme. Very drinkable. Draft @ O’Brians SD. nightrider (227), encinitas, California, USA Apr 1, 2008 Tasted at PP belgian Fest. Brown and amber in color with a off white head. Pretty up front sourness and yeast flavors. Tart fruit flavors abound for sure. gotbeach (121), San Diego, California, USA Mar 31, 2008 Pours light reddish brown with a tan thin head. Sour aroma. Yeast, spicy citrus, and very sour. A bit too sour for me. WeeHeavySD (1704), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Mar 30, 2008 First rating of this brew. Draft at the 2008 Belgian Party at PP Carlsbad, Session 2, first beer of the actual fest, not of the day, not by a long shot. Saw this and was immediately ready for it. Pours red/copper with a tan head. Nose is tart sour. Taste is sour, tart, and full of fruit especially cherries. Overall a very nice beer. Glad to have had it.
