| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 13, 2009 I’ve had this bottle for a while, don’t remember who sent it to me but it’s not the latest release. Strong pop to the cork, very dark ruby, fizzy head with a shade of tan fell to a small covering and remained there. Aroma is sometimes tannic chianti and oak, other times there’s a hint of sourness that evenly intrigues and recoils. strawberry jam. I am really loving wine barrel aged beers. soft layers. fresh juice meets toasted wood. The dubbel side of this beer is very tame and mellow. domesticated from the aging. Wow. Second pouring revealed welcomed chunks of yeast that remained on the surface and a secondary active vibrant head. turned the color a dark muddy brown. seemed to be the same beer, little more wood, little more grit in the body. Soaked, stained wood. I dig that. Glad I drank this bottle by myself. MatSciGuy (642), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 27, 2009 [Bottle] shared by Timbeer. What a letdown. This beer could have been great. Pours a cloudy brown with red highlights and some eagerly dissipating bubbles. Aroma is strong barrel character, lots of strawberry, and just a hint of the base beers maltiness. Flavor falls somewhat flat. The barrel character is quite good, but there is no body or complexity to back it up. Nice dry tannic oakiness, red wine dark fruits, and strawberry. Just no base beer to be found. It’s just way too attenuated so there’s no malt character. The lack of carbonation doesn’t help this aspect either. Maybe I’m being a little harsh in the rating, but this could have been so much better. timbeer (61), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA

Pours cloudy reddish brown with a minimal head. Mild wine/barrel aroma with a wee bit of dark fruit. Light and smooth on the tongue, a bit of tartness and acidity to it with some dark fruit. nickd717 (1415), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 12, 2009 On tap at Lost Abbey for barrel tasting night 2009. Pours from the carafe a hazy medium brown color with a minimal head. Aroma is red wine, caramel, dark fruit, and a woody, somewhat tart barrel essence. Flavor is really vinous and tart and very tasty with cabernet, toffee, whiskey, raisin, fig, spice, and funky barrel notes. Carbonation is a bit low, but par for the course for Lost Abbey, yet it still manages to be an extremely enjoyable beer. Medium body with mild acidity. rustychiles (1071), Mesa, Arizona, USA
