4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle shared by Eric. You rock Sparky! Pours murky dark brown color with thick tan head. Wow. An actual head! Aroma is raisin, fig, along with a touch of funk. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor follows the nose exactly and has a nice meld of the dark fruit flavors along with the funk. A touch of wood finishes this fine brew.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
"murky brown pour with minimal head and lacing. no hint of what this beer used to be, which is both good and bad. it was a nice abey dubbel, and you can’t tell. but that said, this was a good sour fruity funky strong ale, for sure. aroma sweet and sour. you can definitely tell these were red wine barrels in the flavor and aroma, but we weren’t expecting this level of sourness. very oaky, acidic, and vinous, with a sweeter lasting finish that’s sour again going down the throat. i dig it! 2 bottles left, though, from the club...it’s not quite great enough to seek out at $15 a pop in the future."

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: MAY 16, 2014 Bottle thanks to bull11zeye, 2012 vintage. Pours cloudy auburn, small tan head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving a touch of lacing. Aroma is tart cherry, vinous, oaky, smells a bit like supplication. Flavor dissapoints, apple, vinegar and sulphur notes are present and almost overpower the primary flavors. Not bad as it breathes, but it still feels like some bad bacteria got in there with the good ones. Lingering hard-boiled egg flavors not really helping any. Medium tart, minimal sweetness, dry finish. Little bitterness, some astringence. Medium body, LA-flat as expected. Meh.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared by Drewbeerme. Thanks! Pours a deep reddish brown with an off-tan colored head that falls away. Still carrying carbonation. Nose is a bit funky and winey, some light cardboard. Wine is probably the most apt descriptor here. Oak and dark fruit. A bit on the downslope but still impressive. On tasting, moderate tart notes, some brett funk and earthiness. Some paper comes through but it has help up very well. Light acidity and a winey finish. Really cool stuff.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a deep murky brown with no head. Aroma of red wine, currants and subtle vinegar. Taste follows, sour yet not overpowering. Complex, with a balance of wine, berries, vinegar and sour funk. Low carbonation but still delicious. Great sour!

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared by ygtbsm94. Thanks Brad!
The beer is brownish red with but a small head that leaves only faint traces of lacing on the glass.
The aroma is the best aspect of Amazing Grace ale. Scents include barrels, grapes, cherries, wine and alcohol.
The taste did not quite live up to the promise of the aroma. The flavor is really tannic and bites at the palate with each sip. Cherries come through nicely, as well as prominent alcohol throughout.
The beer is medium bodied. This could / should be a smoother ride. While I appreciate the bold showing of the red wine barrels in the nose and taste, the beer comes off a bit too harsh and tannic.
A small portion was plenty for me. This was an OK, but not something that left me wanting more.
