COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From the French word "Garde" meaning something worth keeping, this Farmhouse Styled Ale is a most delicious companion to a loaf of freshly baked bread from the oven. Grab a seat on the porch, some soft cheese and a tree ripened apple from your grandmother's old orchard. Relax and watch the evening arrive as the afternoon sun is consumed by the illuminating moon over the gardens. We brewed Avant Garde for you, our friends and families. Here's to things worth guarding over. http://www.lostabbey.com

Pours a golden hazy rusty color with a magnificent head. Nose is yeasty, fruity, and spicy. Taste is a mildly sour and fruity with a mouthful of yeast. Finish is fruity and yeasty as well, with a taste of alcohol. Quaff Score 7 / 10

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours hazy golden orange color with a nice 3 finger fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big apple, pear, pepper, orange peel, caramel, bread, floral, grass, coriander, earth, honey, light funk, and herbal. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity. Taste of pear, apple, pepper, citrus peel, coriander, bread, caramel, clove, honey, floral, grass, earth, and herbal spiciness. Lingering notes of light fruits, citrus, pepper, bread, coriander, clove, caramel, floral, grass, honey, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Great balance and complexity of flavors; with a very nice malt and yeast spiciness balance; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Biere de Garde style. Very nice flavor complexity and balance; very smooth and crisp to sip on. Really enjoyed this one.

This pours a cloudy copper color with bubbles constantly rising to the top for a thick white head. The aroma has a yeasty, banana, farmhouse ale scent. The initial flavors are wheat mixed with citrus that create a well balanced flavor with the yeast. The texture is superb while being light tasting to the tongue with a dry finish.

6 dec 2012, tap. Light gold, clear, no bubbles. Nose is soft apple juice and slight tart saison yeast. Thin body and moderately fizzy. Reminds me of a sharp lager. Faint lemon, some white grape, and lager skunkiness. Meh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: NOV 26, 2012 Although its a workmans style this is a tremendous beer. The cadillac of the farmhouse if that makes any sense.

Bottle. Clear golden yellow with a thick white head. Spicy aroma with notes of strawberry, grass, hay, yeast, coriander, caramel. Taste is lightly sweet with notes of hay, lemon, earthy spices, horse staple, rye bread, yeast. Light dry bitterness and spicy finish. Well balanced.

Tap. Fluffy slightly tan head, on a mostly clear amber. Very nuanced light and pleasant fruit aromas, some sligt fruity yeast and eath. Flavor is less than impressive, turns fruit sweet with sweet hay as well, red apple meat, and too sweet. Medium to lighter body.

Wittales (436) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - NOV 10, 2012
Appearance was hazy caramel gold with diminishing creamy off white 1 finger head, spotty lace. Aromas are sweet spicey floral farmhouse yeasts, then hints of citrus fruits, no alcohol present. Taste was sweet wheat, pale, 2-row malts, touch of caramel and honey. Hops play mild spicey lemon, orange, tangerine role with smooth funky yeasts. Palate was smooth soft CO2 with meduim body, then spicey funky lasting beautiful finish. A wonderful mix of styles... Tapped@Brewfest LV
