Commercial Description:
From the French word "Garde" meaning something worth keeping, this Farmhouse Styled Ale is a most delicious companion to a loaf of freshly baked bread from the oven. Grab a seat on the porch, some soft cheese and a tree ripened apple from your grandmother's old orchard. Relax and watch the evening arrive as the afternoon sun is consumed by the illuminating moon over the gardens. We brewed Avant Garde for you, our friends and families. Here's to things worth guarding over. http://www.lostabbey.com

750 ml bottle. Granny Smith apples from the aromas off this golden yellow slightly hazy pour. Decent head the whole way through. Flavors not at all tart like the aromas suggested. Much more earthy and spicy. Some lemon zest, and then a very nice finish. Pretty good stuff.

On tap at Pizza Port. Hazy golden with a foamy white head. Aroma of malt, yeast, honey, and fruit. Semi-sweet citrus taste with some biscuity notes, a hoppy bitterness, and a dry finish.

Nice packaging; interesting label. The beer is orange. Aroma has light spices, almost a yeasty, barnyard weirdness but not quite, because it doesn’t smell sour enough. Flavor is surprisingly sweet for a biere de garde, and has considerble yeast. Also very malty, and probably the thickest and heaviest beer I have had in this style. Finish is sweet malt with wild herbs and spices.

bottle....very nice on a warm day here in chicago.....aroma: wheaty with pretty assertive orange notes. as the citrus diminished, this gave way to more of a sweet malty backdrop.....appearance: hazy orange brown and pure white head that stuck around for awhile....taste: bready/wheaty with a medium creamy body. little citrus and some spices to boot.

Shared by BadgerBen. Aroma was wheat and spices. Cloudy yellow, with a white head. Taste had notes of hops, malts, and a touch of fruit. Not bad.

Bottle @ Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Pours a hazy golden colorwith a white head. Has a spicy, malty and yeasty aroma with some hints of citrus. Sweet malty yeasty and fruity citrus flavor. Spicy malty finish with a long bitter aftertaste.

Beer shared by Badgerben in 22-oz bottle. Pours a hazy yellow amber brew with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of northern white pine, citrus peel, sweet barley malt and a touch of apple. Taste is medium bodied, lightly carbonated with flavors of biscuits, apples and some mild spices. Finish has a citrus bitter aftertaste.

Thanks for the trade, DirtyMartini! Cloudy yellow color with a medium head. Aroma of wheat and fruit. Big wheat and orange flavors with a strong bitter finish. It strikes me as a Noble hop bitterness. Not a bombastic beer, but very nice.
