COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From the French word "Garde" meaning something worth keeping, this Farmhouse Styled Ale is a most delicious companion to a loaf of freshly baked bread from the oven. Grab a seat on the porch, some soft cheese and a tree ripened apple from your grandmother's old orchard. Relax and watch the evening arrive as the afternoon sun is consumed by the illuminating moon over the gardens. We brewed Avant Garde for you, our friends and families. Here's to things worth guarding over. http://www.lostabbey.com

750 mL bottle from FlacoAlto. Pours coppery orange with small white foamy head, mostly lasting and with average lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (meal, cereal, straw), average hops (flowers, herbs), average yeast (sweat) with notes of honey, pear and butter. Light sweetness, heavy acidity, harsh bitterness, sweaty dough yeast flavor, toasted straw, butter, herbs and spicy floral hop notes. Medium bodied, alcoholic texture, fizzy carbonation.

Bottle from Ledgers, Berkeley; Nose is grainy with a little spice, flowers, and fruit; lightly hazed litle copper color with a medium, quick disappating white head; Flavor has light fruitiness with caramel light spices, and some nutiness; This has all the complexity of a really big quad, but all the factors are very light and not overwhelming! A very light but complex ale!

750 ml bottle from BevMo. Pours a mostly clear toasty amber color with a fluffy white head. Floral and fruity aroma, bready yeasts and a gentle cardamom spiciness. Flavor of spiced bread, bittering herbs, flower petals and a hint of mustiness, leaving a slightly astringent and spicy aftertaste. Medium body, mildly assertive carbonation. This is a nice beer to pair with food, I’m looling forward to having it with my crab cakes, wild rice medely and broccoli in a few minutes!

The aroma!! Incredible. Cloudy on the pour with a very large, whitish head. Smooth throughout with a slightly spicy/seasoned finish. The overall flavor is mildly flowery, fruity, and carmelly; emphasis in mildly. The blends of flavors are superb. Such a find is rare. Unfortunately, Lost Abbey bottles are not available in the Minneapolis metro area. Fortunately, a friend supplied me with this wonderful experience.

Bottle from my Dad. Body is a foggy amber, with no head, it’s just gorgeous. Aroma is a sweet hoppy smell, with a bit of dried fruit. Taste has a nice hop forefront to it, the dried fruit, honey, light caramel, and almonds.

Bottle. Pours slightly hazy and yellow. It has a huge head with nice retention. The aromas of this beer are outstanding, there is a bit of floweriness, bread, nutmeg and other spices. The flavors are also very complex, a bitterness offset by a tartness, fruit, hops and malts. Best Biere de Gard I have tasted so far.
