COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Late in November of 2011, Mike Rodriguez our head brewer asked about creating a Coffee and Cacoa Nib version of Serpent’s Stout for the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. The beer was a hit with our fans. When we wrote up the syllabus for the Ultimate Box Set, we knew a version of this beer would be included. We waited until the very end of the release schedule to put this beer in a bottle so that the coffee and cacoa nibs really come through. Four Bourbon barrels were selected for their rich and dense chocolate flavors. One week before packaging, we added 17 lbs of Ryan Brothers Coffee and 4 lbs of TCHO Cacao Nibs were added to the coffee and cacao to steep before packaging.

Bottle from Beer Junction in west Seattle ( just down the street from Seattle Fish Co., the best damn seafood biz in Seattle!). Colour...onyx with a corpulent tan head. Nose...coffee ganache and buttercream chocolate with hints of spice. Palate...muscular and intense with spiciness and dark chocolate. The mid palate is gripping and tight with peppery notes and a long bitter finish.

Bottle @ basement beer bar, Aalborg. Aroma of coffee, cocao, bourbon, vanilla, roasted malt, burnt malt. Black with tan head, mostly diminishing. Taste is moderate+ sweet, moderate malt bitter, thick oily texture, avg. carb., sweet alcohol, bourbon chocolate, coffee malt finish.

On tap at GE. Pours a deep dark brown black with a thin dark brown head. Aromas of chocolate fudge, cocoa powder, slight vanilla. Taste is sweet with a boozy kick. Very well balanced for a big beer though. Well rounded flavor.

Bottle. 2015 vintage. Pours out an almost black color with a small tan head. Aroma is of some syrup, chocolate, dried dark fruit, oak, coffee, some light vanilla, mild alcohol. Taste is complex, smooth, full mouthfeel, licorice, chocolate, oak, coffee, dark fruit, light alcohol. Nice

Bottle, thanks SirLimpsalot. Black with a small tan head. Aroma of bourbon, ash, dark chocolate, coffee and some hints of nuts. Similar taste. Also some hints of cocoa. The body was full and the carbonation soft. A beer to sip, lovely.

@ Basunen 16-4-16: Stor doft av kaffe och aska. Mycket fyllig smak av kaffe, aska och lite torv. Eftersmak av arrak och choklad. Fasiken va gott.

Bottle. Pours an oily onyx black deep brown body with a medium creamy caramel head. Lovely. Aroma is bourbon, wood, vanilla, biscuits, alcohol, port wine, caramel, coffee and hints of cocoa, toffee, peanuts and brandy. Amazingly complex and beckoning. Taste is chocolate, coffee, alcohol, bourbon, wood, vanilla, burnt sugar and hints of brown bread, cocoa and rum. Full body, parching mouthfeel, soft to medium carbonation. Very nice BA creation from Lost Abbey; a bit too roasty for me to get a truly epic score, but still a world class beer.

2016-03-18. Black body with a small oily brown head that fades. 3++ Aroma is rich and intense with a sharp melange of coffee and dark malt. Flavour is similarly rich, oily dark malt coffee and cocoa. Lingering bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Smooth average plus bodied palate, soft carbonation. Pleasant but thinner than I’d like the beer to be. 7/3/7-8/3-4/15-16 Bottle from Boston Wine Exchange, Boston.

Bottle. Cotteridge. 13.5%. Nearly black. Halo of dense, lasting, tan head. Nose has rich, thick, salty, dark chocolate. Some soy. Vanilla pod. Milky coffee. Taste is chewy sweet. Light, coffee bitterness. Mouthfeel is slick and oily. Boozy and mouth numbing. I think my teeth might be melting. Syrupy sweet finish. Some coffee bitterness. Big beer. Rich and smooth, but maybe lacks some finesse. Sank it easily, mind, and could no problem do another.
