COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Late in November of 2011, Mike Rodriguez our head brewer asked about creating a Coffee and Cacoa Nib version of Serpent’s Stout for the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. The beer was a hit with our fans. When we wrote up the syllabus for the Ultimate Box Set, we knew a version of this beer would be included. We waited until the very end of the release schedule to put this beer in a bottle so that the coffee and cacoa nibs really come through. Four Bourbon barrels were selected for their rich and dense chocolate flavors. One week before packaging, we added 17 lbs of Ryan Brothers Coffee and 4 lbs of TCHO Cacao Nibs were added to the coffee and cacao to steep before packaging.

Taster glass at The Beer Store. Pours dark brown-black with a brown foamy head. Nose is dark chocolate, molasses, bourbon, vanilla, dried dark fruit, and apricot. Flavour is dark roasted malts, expresso, mocha, raisin, fig, dried apricot, with mild hops on the finish. Superbly balanced. Moderate body. Awesome.

375, corked and baled. Thanks, J! Pours an opaque black with a dense and creamy dark tan head that fades quickly to nothing. Huge apricot, dark chocolate, and vanilla nose. Sticky thick near-flat body. Dense creamy dark chocolate, apricots, and vanilla mid palate. Long dark chocolate finish.

Draft pour at the beer junction barrel Lost Abbey event. Pours black with a brown head that fades. Big coffee bean aisle in your local grocery store aroma. A ton of coffee here, and I thought I would never say it, but it overpowers. Especially in the finish. Definitely a sipper, these is a big beer. This beer is great for what it is. I could sip this over time, but it’s quite intense. Tastes as strong as it is, if not more. I really hope I run into this beer again someday. It might not fit my personal favorites, still it’s a special beer. Good stuff.

Viscous pitch black pour with mocha head. Yes. An LA BA Stout with head. Nose of dark roasted coffee, roasted malt, chocolate and booze. Taste follows the nose with some nice coffee bitterness with plenty of sweetness to balance it out. Chocolate is there for sure as well. Thick and oily on the palate as I would hope for and expect. Very well done. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle gift from SJ. This brew has a lot going on, but it is awesome. Notes of cacao, burnt / roasted malts, wood, a rich and dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and brown sugar. The blend is amazing, it’s like they took serpent stout which is all ready phenomenal and made it better.
