Late in November of 2011, Mike Rodriguez our head brewer asked about creating a Coffee and Cacoa Nib version of Serpent’s Stout for the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. The beer was a hit with our fans. When we wrote up the syllabus for the Ultimate Box Set, we knew a version of this beer would be included. We waited until the very end of the release schedule to put this beer in a bottle so that the coffee and cacoa nibs really come through. Four Bourbon barrels were selected for their rich and dense chocolate flavors. One week before packaging, we added 17 lbs of Ryan Brothers Coffee and 4 lbs of TCHO Cacao Nibs were added to the coffee and cacao to steep before packaging.

bottle from kihoskh. pours pitch black with a dark brown head. looks very very good strong aroma of roasted malts, coca and coffee,. flavor is roasted malts, chocolate, very velvety and smooth, also notes of bourbon. alc burn, but not at all brutal as you’d expect at 13.5% fainter notes of raisins too. i think i can taste the lost abbey house flavor in this one, sort of faint belgian yeasty kind of note to it, but in any case a good tasting imp. stout with complexity and power combined.

Thnx to Philus! Pours intensely black, with a nicely sized , grey head. Yes, this is a dark beer ! Smell is Heavy, roasted malts, mild bitterness, and hidden booze. Taste is full, sharp roasted malts, bitter, tones of coffee and dark chocolate. Very heavy, a lot of booze. Nice

Pours with a three finger light head that fades slowly leaving traces of lace. Black color, no highlights, ton yeast left in bottle. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Coffee nose and flavor is roasted coffee and chocolate, some dark fruit, the high ABV just about hidden. Decent Imp stout. Expensive at $18.99 for a 375ml caged & corked bottle from Julio’s Liquors Westborough, Ma.

Bottle Crushed with Jakebra. Cool fuckin label. Bizarre deScription on the back. Aroma of ask tray, burnt wood, oak, and some bourbon. Quite boozy for sure. Flavor is more ash tray and wood. Rough one to get through.

Bottled. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, vanilla and bourbon. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry with some alcohol. Medium to full bodied oily texture and flat to soft carbonation. An excellent Impy indeed. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Pours oily black color, haze, with unstable foamy brown head, which transform itself to a tiny ring around the glass. Visually low carbonation. Aroma: intense aroma of bourbon, oak, vanilla, cacao, of dark malts, which takes on coffee and dark chocolate. Flavor: rich dark malts flavor, which takes on coffee, dark chocolate and cocoa. There also detectable additions, so Cacao nibs as Coffee, supported with notes of dark fruits, especially of prunes, cherries, plums, and supported with flavor of bourbon, vanilla and oak, which steps forward from the background. Taste is namelly malty sweet, than you detect gentle bitterness and discrete alcohol warmth, which immediately steps forward and lingering parallel with malt sweetness in finish. Finish is dry, sticky. Body is full, carbonation is low, texture is very smooth. World-class imperial stout/doubble american.

Had a few sips,
very flavor-full, like forest semisweet berries infused. Intense fruity-vinegard aroma notes, Full bodied, thick, oily texture. Nice one. Weird that I did not notice much of a cocoa and coffee notes.
