Late in November of 2011, Mike Rodriguez our head brewer asked about creating a Coffee and Cacoa Nib version of Serpentís Stout for the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. The beer was a hit with our fans. When we wrote up the syllabus for the Ultimate Box Set, we knew a version of this beer would be included. We waited until the very end of the release schedule to put this beer in a bottle so that the coffee and cacoa nibs really come through. Four Bourbon barrels were selected for their rich and dense chocolate flavors. One week before packaging, we added 17 lbs of Ryan Brothers Coffee and 4 lbs of TCHO Cacao Nibs were added to the coffee and cacao to steep before packaging.

Opaque black with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, dark fruits, wood, vanilla, bourbony alcohol. Taste of chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, charred wood, some vanilla, light alcohol in the finish.

Heavy sweet dark fruit and chocolate aroma. Pours like motor oil with a thin quickly disappearing dark tan head. Hard candy. Cocoa. Dark fruit. Sweet malt. Boozy. Very good.

Whoa.. one helluva beer. Seems so bold, yet very mild, all rounded, powerfull.. Perfect deep roasted malts all the way, but keeps solid smoothness, even more rounded when cocoa mildness comes in, some dried fruits, BA aspect and vanilla gives another dimension. Mostly sweet with decent bitterness. Perfectly sippable brew. Love it

Pours with a three finger light head that fades slowly leaving traces of lace. Black color, no highlights, ton yeast left in bottle. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Coffee nose and flavor is roasted coffee and chocolate, some dark fruit, the high ABV just about hidden. Decent Imp stout. Expensive at $18.99 for a 375ml caged & corked bottle from Julioís Liquors Westborough, Ma.

UPDATED: APR 2, 2016 practically black colour, 1 inch creamy brown head; aroma of intensive herbal and cocoa notes, coffee some smoke and whisky; taste is the same with the dominance of syrupy, herbal and smoke notes; great imperial stout, though not that perfect I expected

375 ml bottle shared by Chalumeaux. Thanks TJ. Aroma is mellow integrated bourbon notes with a roasted coffee beans and notes of coca nibs.

Whatever bourbon barrel they aged this in was a perfect vessel for this stout. The bourbon cuts through the cocoa nibs and coffee and provides balance. The booze is almost completely hidden with only a mild warming after the swallow. Body is mostly full but the alcohol may have thin it just a bit, no matter. If this stout was more reasonably priced, I would grab many bottles. This is pretty delightful, my kind of stout.

Pour on tap, Avery Strong Ale fest 2012. Dark murky black pour with thin to no dark head, aroma brought notes of thick chocolate, dark fruit, roast, bourbon and espresso, bringing back more chocolate, definitely heavier on that end. Taste was a bit on the sweet side but the chocolate was very authentic, mixing with the vanilla of the bourbon, a slight roasted coffee note helped balanced a bit. Dug this one.
