COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Late in November of 2011, Mike Rodriguez our head brewer asked about creating a Coffee and Cacoa Nib version of Serpent’s Stout for the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. The beer was a hit with our fans. When we wrote up the syllabus for the Ultimate Box Set, we knew a version of this beer would be included. We waited until the very end of the release schedule to put this beer in a bottle so that the coffee and cacoa nibs really come through. Four Bourbon barrels were selected for their rich and dense chocolate flavors. One week before packaging, we added 17 lbs of Ryan Brothers Coffee and 4 lbs of TCHO Cacao Nibs were added to the coffee and cacao to steep before packaging.

Pour from a bottle gave a pitch black beer with a small tan head. Huge cocoa and coffee aromas. Medium mouthfeel . Flavored of dry dark chocolate, oak vanilla, and black coffee. Finish is long lean and on the drier side.Good beer.

Sampled at FoBAB ’12. Pours near black with a medium sized tan head. The aroma had roasted malts, coffee, chocolate with mild barrel notes. The flavor had more coffee and chocolate than the nose indicated, roasted malts, bourbon and vanilla with a touch of char at the finish. I thought this was very solid, but more about the treatments than the base beer.

On tap at CBC2012. Beer in the glass deep black, small head. Heavy malty aroma. Starts mild-malty, fine smokey with chocolate notes. Gets stronger and stronger, some earthy hints. A bit scratchy-woody. Well balanced warming finish. Really nice!

"Bat out of hell" från Lost Abbey boxen, (som tydligen var alias med denna). Aska kaffesump och nyskuren chili. Intensiva smaker av kaffe som hänger i. Viss beska mot slutet. Lite småvass. Bourbon kan anas.

Bottle sample at FoBAB 2013, pours opaque black. Nose bourbon some coco. Almost pepper smell. Taste chocolate and coffee come through in the taste. Bourbon adding chartacter not overpowering. Roasty finish.

38cl, at 13.5%Vol, as Lost Abbey Track #10, new exclusive American brew Anno 2012, with coffee and cacao, thx to Brent and Dirk for sharing!, very complex sweet Stout, roasted/alcoholic and slightly spicy/bitter, yet not too heavy, balanced, hazy, small head, very good brew, WOW!

Boulder Strong Ale Fest. Deep brown appearance with a tiny tan head. Rich roasty coffee, slightly burnt, light chocolate aroma. Big mocha, rich dark chocolate, very roasty coffee, light vanilla, woody flavor.

UPDATED: JUN 14, 2012 Tap @ CBC. Ink black with a nice small brown head. Aroma had lots of wood, bourbon and vanilla, creamy chocolate ganache, dates and figs. Cocoa nibs and vanilla beans, not much coffee presence other than a hint of fruity espresso. Pleasant aroma. Taste is heavy bourbon and dry wood. Lots of chocolate and burnt caramel, some roasted malt notes and coffee. Lovely cocoa nib and chocolate brownie elements, roundes up by a pleasant amount of hop bittetness. Smooth palate, very creamy. Better than the regular Serpent’s Stout because it’s rare dong whale.

Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Black with a small tan head. Roasted aroma with coffee, intense dark chocolate and a touch of charcoal. Sweetish chocolate and roasted malt flavour with a pleasant coffee note and warming alcohol in the finish
