3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Lost Abbey’s 4th Anniversary party. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is a little roast and booze. No less than 8 bourbon barrels and 2 port barrels in the brewery, so I suspect there will be some released in bottles in the future, or at least blended with other stuff. Not sweet or dry. Thick body. Mellowed a little from the barrel aging. Pretty good.

Pours like motor oil. Pretty nice nose of chocolate and malt. The palate has outstanding feel and creaminess. Good stout.

This is old but I think they age well. Black pour with a ton of brown creamy head. Roasty flavor. Chipotle and cocoa blend with a sense pallet. Big but hides the ABV well. Yummy

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft. Deep, rich, brownish black with coffee creama head. Much lighter and balanced nose than I was expecting, even after letting it warm up. Cocoa, raisins, dried fig, dark skin roasted nuts, coffee...some barrel in there, vanilla and what not, but very light...which works for me. Flavor isn’t as harmonious and is a has a touch of a twang with bitter finish and could use a bit more barrel notes coming through.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
4 oz Sample courtesy of Bill, Thanks again man for busting out this rare brewsker. Poured a dark brown, with lighter head. Aromas of fudge, bourbon, vanilla bean, dark fruit, and roasted grain. Taste was around the same with further small notes of tobacco, fig, and cofee. Mouthfeel was very sticky. Overall a great beer. Very warming.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
At Barrel Night back in November. From notes that I’m catching up day by day. Pours a thick black with tiny brown head. Aroma is of bourbon, vanilla and minimal dark chocolate/truffle notes. Truffle and tons of bourbon barrel come out in the taste. One of the hottest BA imperial stouts I’ve tried. The vanilla is apparent and goes well with the rest of the profile. This is one to sip over a long period. The 3oz taste was good by me.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap at Lost Abbey on January 21, 2011. Advertised as barrel #935. Black pour with a slick of expresso colored head. Aroma is pungent bourbon with vanilla, heavy dark fruit, and a nice even chocolate roast underneath. Taste is dominated by the bourbon up front with complimentary vanilla followed by chocolate, roasted malt, perhaps some light coffee in there, and some light alcohol heat on the finish. Smooth, coating mouthfeel. Great beer that I’d love to see bottled and it was nice to have it side-by-side with the "regular" version that sees distribution.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Single Barrel (#935 - the hot one from the barrel night). On tap at Lost Abbey. Pours with a pitch black body with a lasting brown head with some decent lace. Aromas are huge, bourbon, fudgy, tobacco, chocolate, vanillin. Somewhat sharp alcohol and barrel character. Flavors are nutty, fudge, bourbon, molasses. Alcohol is a bit smoother on the tongue than in the nose. Lots of tannic bitterness and vanillin. Medium to lively bubbles, dryish, tannic, warming. Good stuff in small quantities.
